Building Pop'n Music Controller

I'm thinking of building my own Pop'n Music controller, and have a quick question about specs.

Does anyone know the distance from center of button to center of button on the dedicated Pop'n machines.

Is the horizontal distance the same as the diagonal? I would assume so, but thought I would ask.

I think there's a thread for this way back, I'll see if I can find it. That or it was wiped from bms6.0.
