Default Building a Pop'n Music Controller (for Home)

I would like to build a pop'n music controller for a slim ps2. I've been told that I need a ps1 controller (I have a psX controller; I'm not sure if this will work). If anyone could provide information on where to purchase buttons or measurements to build the casing would be incredibly helpful. Help with button mapping would also be appreciated. I'm sure any information provided would be appreciated by others as well.

*EDIT*
Would buttons from the following link be a good purchase?

Illuminated Pushbuttons (Jumbo Round)

If I can get a decent amount of information I will write a guide on how to make a controller.

Thank you for the links. For those that are interested psX controllers will work. The buttons map as such:

I'm still not sure where to actually connect the buttons to the controller though. The buttons on the bottom row are spaced 5.5" apart from their centers. The top row buttons are spaced 5.5" apart from the bottom row buttons and between the bottom row buttons (more exact measurements would be nice). As far as buttons go, these are what I have found that can easily be purchased individually:

Illuminated Pushbuttons (Jumbo Round)

I have heard that they are loud and cannot compete with other types of buttons on the more difficult songs though.

Please refer to this thread for information on making a controller:

The (official?) homebuilt thread

When I have time I would still like to gather all the information into one post.
