Default Do you have Pop N' Music game CD's?

I am a software engineer looking to help finish the Pop N' Music MAME effort. Obviously one of the things needed are the game CD's. I posted in the for sale section because I am looking to buy them. But if you have them, don't want to sell but are willing to make a copy of them to help the MAME effort please contact me.

I don't think this is off the Pop N simulation topic at all. I would like to contribute to the simulation work that has already been done, to do so I need images of the original game cd's. Sounds perfectly on topic to me.

One problem with this is the game doesn't run off CDs.
It runs off hard drives, and honestly I don't think there are many people who care about running 1-14 MAME when a certain somewhere has 15-16 available straight for PC.

You are partially correct. Pop N 1 - 3 ran on DJ Main hardware. That has a 2.5" (laptop) hard drive. CHD's are easily created off those drives. Pop N 4 - 8 ran on Firebeat hardware. That system uses 1 CDROM and 1DVDROM. No hard disks. Again CHD's are easy to create off those. Pop N 9 - 13 ran on Viper hardware. Uses a Compact Flash card. DVDROM is still used to load up the CF card. Pop N 14 - current is on Bemani PS2 hardware. DVD used again.

The point was that you might not be interested in bringing this to MAME but other people are. I think you might be confusing Pop N and IIDX when it comes to hard drive images running under windows. IIDX uses embedded windows, not Pop N. Like I mentioned above 14 - current uses a PS2 with an external hardware interface.

I just wanted to ask the community if anybody out there had disks so we can document and preserve a great game line. That's what this forum is for right?

I have access to the game discs for 6, Animelo 2 and 8 immediately but they are not for sale as they belong to my roomate's machine (which is currently only running firebeat hardware). I also have access to several of the 9-14 HDDs. I'm not sure how soon I can provide copies to your team, but if you contact me we can figure it out.

You are obviously misinformed. 9-14 uses bemani viper ps2 hardware, and as of pop'n 15, they switched to bemanipc which is embedded windows ala IIDX. With hard drives.

source: I bought a freaking cabinet.

So you are saying system16.com is incorrect?

Popn 9 - 13
System 16 - Bemani Viper Hardware (Konami)

Popn 14 - 16
System 16 - Bemani PlayStation 2 Hardware (Konami)

If they are wrong let me know and I'll drop an email to the webmaster

Yeah 14 is definitely viper ps2 hardware. I've looked at my kit before. 15 and up is Bemani PC as stated.

Viper and PS2 are not the same system. There is viper, and there is PS2. And of course there is Bemani PC. Was PS2 ever used on PNM? I know viper was, and you said as of 15 BPC is. Anyways may not mean much to anybody, but if system16 is going to claim something as gospel, I want to make sure it's the truth.

Thanks for the info.

System 16 is 110% incorrect if that is what they are stating.

Bemani Viper *is* modified ps2 hardware, and it runs from 9-13.

The correct information would be the following:

Pop'n 1-3: DJ MAIN
Pop'n 4-8: Firebeat (ONLY THIS HARDWARE USES DISCS, THE REST USE HDDs)
Pop'n 9-14: Viper (this is a ps2, basically)
Pop'n 15-17: BemaniPC (running embedded windows XP, all over the internet because of piracy)
