Default Do you use training mode?

I just started playing popn again after like a 8 month break because my friend took back his jap ps2 i was borrowing and i finally bought my own. so im getting back to my old skill pretty quickly theres a few songs i have clears on that i know i scraped by on but i cant quite pass them yet. but basicly im coming to the same point again, capping out on 28-29s.

theres this song on popn 10 which i dont know the name, it has mimi in an angel outfit with a green leaf circlet. and its only a 26 but its really hard. it has a lot of 2-3 button combo hits mixed in with fast singles. and the ending has a fast hard part with lots of 3 button hits. i played it in training mode for like an hour goin through the song slow, speeding it up every so often, i focused on the ending and sped it up every couple plays. and finally i can pass it barely with like an 80k.

its still hard for me to read fast bursts of triple button hits in a row, songs like murmur twins hyper pwn me hard. i can almost pass energy rock, so u see what point im around. is this normal for the progess to become so hard? up until this point i never used training mode i just kept getting better. but ive been at this point for a while i think because i play songs i know i can pass and its not making me any better. should i continue practicing with training mode? im not sure if it helps, cause i can pass murmur twins hyper on 4 speed, but then i play it normal and it kills me

Far better than training mode is to simply play other Pop'ns, with songs you haven't tried in a while.

Playing some Pop'n 8 got me through the low 30s, and now it looks like mixing things up whenever I play is going to get me through the 40 barrier real soon.

The song is Pegasus Gensou (Pegasus Fantasy) from the anime series Saint Seiya (known in Morth America as The Knights of the Zodiac).

Nope. I think Pop'n becomes too much like an instrument or even a chore if you have to play certain portions of a song over and over again to get them right. Good old Free Mode is all I play.

Training mode is good to see parts of song you're having trouble with. I played Rinsei one day on training mode, probably twice at speed 4. I went back into free mode played it once on normal speed and got my 98.5k.

It's very useful for songs with clusterfucks of notes too. (Lamento)

h8 for training mode.

I've used it twice. Grunge-Des EX and Cowboy EX. Think I played 'em on 3 speed 2-3 times each.

Honestly, I've found that just playing the song a lot works. Or going and playing other songs and coming back to it later.
Going through training mode didn't make me magically be able to pass either of those songs, just getting better in general at reading patterns and playing Pop'n did.

Granted, I still can't pass Cowboy EX for the life of me and I can't score worth a damn on Grunge-Des (92k something?) but I don't really care. Playing Pop'n for score is buu anyway >.>

If you have /one/ song that you just /have/ to pass I guess training mode is your answer, but I'd just say go play other songs and come back to it.

QFT.

Don't get too hung up on one song. Play some other things. In the time you spend trying to get one song down, you could be getting better at the game all together by playing other songs. Variety is the spice of life.

That's pretty much the same thing I've been doing, and it seems to work well. I'll stick to one game for a week, then just keep switching. Mainly it's been between 8, 9, and 12. Since I don't have 11 (i dunno why?!) I can't throw that into the mix. I find just doing different songs on the next mix that I haven't done previously at a higher level improves my skill. For example: do a 30 on pnm 8, then try a random 34 on pnm 12. After doing that for a while it gets easier. Now I need to do the push threw mid-30's! YAY!

I only use Training Mode as a last resort, if there's a single part in a song that's giving me trouble, and I just need that one part right to clear the whole song. So then I play that part in Training Mode at a slower speed maybe two or three times, and then I go back to Free Mode, play the whole thing and end up passing it.

However, if the entire song is hard, then I don't really bother playing it hundreds of times until I get it right. Like others said, just come back to it later. After failing Grunge-Des H constantly for a while, I left it for a few weeks, and then one day I said "ha ha, let's fail it again" and I ended up passing it, surprisingly.

Quite the contrary of everyone else, I use Training Mode all of the time. It helps me perfect a problem spot of a song, and can make the difference between a 99K and a 100K, or even a clear and a fail. After taking DRM'N'FRY HYPER into Training Mode for about 15 minutes, I cut my Bads in half and raised my score by 1K or so. The same goes for the middle of GAMELAN EX, many parts of LAMENTO EX, the ending of MIRAIHA EX, and more.

Differents strokes for different folks. My method probably isn't as good as what everyone else does, which is simply playing more pop'n, but...I like my way, haha.

I used Training Mode mainly for Grunge-Des and Oi Punk 0. I tried using it for Cowboy, but to no avail

I think using training mode is fine. I first learned of its power in DDR with Orion 78. I started off at speed 1 and worked my way up from; afterwards I was the first one of my friends to pass it. So far I've only used it to pass songs, never to improve scores (although the two are practically linked).

I like to use training mode on IIDX, but I haven't tried it on Pop'n yet.

I've used training mode once, it was to get the end of Ninja Hero [H] when I was on that 28-29 barrier.
