Default Help! Trying to build my own ASC...

So me and my friend have finally done it. Bought the wood, got the pushbuttons, broke apart the official playstation controller to solder, until-

What the hell? Umm... where are the contact points on this thing!? And why is it so different from what everyone else was using for their PCB?

I was wondering if anyone had a pic of the contact points on an official PSX controller so we could solder it without drilling holes or sanding, etc. etc. I could guess through the whole thing, but I'd much rather not, considering I really only have the opportunity to do this right the first time...

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

The original Playstation controller is really bad for this since all of the contacts are covered with the black coating. You will have to carefully scrape enough of it off to get a place to solder onto. Drilling small holes will make for a better connection but isn't completely necessary. Many of the cheap third party controllers do not have this coating and are much easier to work with. You should be able to find the button mapping by doing a search either in this forum or by through Google.

You may also want to look on the homebuilt Pop'n ASC thread here. There should be some good info there, and you might be able to figure out who you can ask questions of.

If you can post a pic of your pcb I can help advise the best place to solder to, If there are black points everywhere there is most likely stuff you have to scrape (carefully with a razor blade) to get to the points. but its easy as long as your careful
