Default Important for Homemade controllers:

After cutting through several third party controllers to revive my poor pop'n controller, these are some notes that I've made to ensure controllers will work with pop'n.

1.) Controllers with auto-fire switches will not work. The controller I had used for this had switches, that even in the off position will trigger some sort of hiccup in the PCB. This prevents the game from recognizing the controller as a Pop'n controller.

2.) Some controllers have the grounds BUILT INTO THE CONTROLLER ITSELF. These will drive you wild, but still workable. Just make sure if you decide to trim away rumble packs and analog sticks that you avoid trimming the wire that leads to the ground

3.) The cheapest controller the store has might not be the best one. Some really, really cheap controllers have a fun thing with the D-Pad that prevents two directional buttons from being pressed at the same time. This will prevent the controller from registering as a pop'n controller.

Long story short I've spent too much money on these controllers and I could have just bought a ransai. ;_;

Damn man, that sucks. I thought about making my own controller for a while, then I just decided I wanted to purchase a Pop'n DASC. I figure this, I don't have any of the equipment to even begin making a custom controller (that includes wood, soldering iron, cutting tools, drill, nothing). I'm almost positive I won't be paying much more (I might even be saving money) if I just order a controller. The only reason I'd see fit to make a custom controller is to enjoy the authenticity of your own work, along with the great feeling of accomplishment.

totally agree with you on that one. i mean it would be fun to build it yourself, but i don't think i could make it great looking as a ransai (the paint job, box and all that..i don't even know how 2 solder!)

You can use a rapid firecontroller, you just have to solder it into the off position. If it's in the off position the PS2/Pop'n wont even realize it's there.

And I love my homemade Pop'n ASC. But in the future I might see if I can order some buttons through DASC/Ransai to see if there is a big difference between the company they use and Happ's.
