my name is Ian, and i live in new york... and not the city, but about an hour north of it. I'm 20 and currently studying architecture. I am yet another person who discovered bemani through DDR, which was at a local arcade. that got me into rhythm games in general so i did some research and pop'n caught my eye.
i figured i couldn't play pop'n without the right controller so i bought a DASC before i even had a copy of the game. of course by the time i got my asc from steve i had had pop'n 7 cs for about a month.. anyway, that was last summer and i now play at the lvl 30-32 range. the only cabinet close to me (from my understanding) is 8 on the break, but i would have to make a day trip out of it so i have yet to get down there.
i am also another person who tries to get everyone around them into pop'n music... though i seem to fail miserably.

i recently turned 18 and i got into bemani in general about a year ago .. starting with popn since i was highly attracted to the art direction in the series. i actually got one of the character art books before i invested in a controller or any games
beside playin bemani games, most of my time goes into art. since i finished school i am likely going to jump into the illustration field ..
on that note, lately i have been drawing a lot of bemani related fanart so if anyone is interested in that type of stuff they can check out my stuff @ my site in my signature. : - )

Marketplace Rating: 0 | My name is Gabe, I'm 21, and live in Laurel, MD currently (Koop, I didn't know you lived around here). I'm at the 43 level pretty much and I've only got Niente, Cowboy, and ToyCon EXs left to pass. I played a lot while I was in Japan last Fall, and got used to playing on AC so I didn't play a lot after I got back until recently. My girlfriend also plays a lot, she's around 36-37 or so? If she played more she'd be a lot better :/ Oh, and also I stopped playing with Greats completely around a year ago, and since Carnival CS came out I have only done it for songs at level 41 and up.
I got into pop'n at Otakon 2k4 or 2k5 or something and decided to pick up 8 CS (chose between 8 or 9 at the time), and I played Dual Shock for about the first two weeks while my DASC was being made. Once I got that, I started passing 39s and eventually a few 40s before pop'n 10 came out and I moved on to that. Around the time pop'n 12 CS came out, my controller was in bad shape and I had to fix it up since I decided to give it to my gf as a Christmas present, and bought a Ransai. I've been plagued with controller problems since about 3 months after I got my DASC, so I'm no stranger to opening up controllers, figuring out what's wrong, and fixing them with whatever I may need to use.
I wish there were more people around here I could compete with, but the best players seem to be scattered across the US and I'm not sure if Kaze is in Japan now or if he's back in Florida or what.
As for tournament experience, I've been in five pop'n tournaments and placed (top 3) in 3 of them, Bemanithon 2 (1st), BOWLmanifest 2007 (3rd), and Kings of the Coast (1st). The other tournaments were both 4th place finishes, at Champions of the Coast 4 and BOWLmanifest 2006.
Some day, I want to hold a gigantic, multi-music-game tournament even larger than what 8otB does with Kings of the Coast, but I need to get working on that soon if I want to do it by next year.

I'm looking forward to when I'll be going to Japan to study. It will be cool to have lots of Bemani players close-by. Kaze is still in the US till August I think. Last time I talked to him.
But yeah if you organize a tournament that would be awesome. Let us know for sure. I'd like to meet all of you guys.

| What do you plan to do after that? Start trying to clear the songs on random and things like that? Or quit, or something.. | |

I'll try to get things rolling for the tournament (but like I said it will probably be a while), and I'll let you know how things are progressing once I get various details (location, games, AC machines, etc.) locked in place. I'll probably work on getting more Perfects if not just playing the game for fun like I usually do.

Marketplace Rating: 0 | Hi my name is Eric, I'm 23 years old and I live in Richmond California (about to move back to San Francisco). I work at San Francisco State in the IT department of the housing department and I'm working toward a History degree. I usually hang out at the Rack'n Cue if I'm not on the job or in class. If I can manage it sometimes I go to SVGL. I also play Drummania, DDR, and IIDX. Other then bemani, I'm interested in retro/oldschool consoles and gaming, history, technology stuff, world war II, science articles etc
I've been playing bemani games since 2001 and pop'n music since 2006. I originally got into pop'n music when I first played it in 2004 at Fanime. A friend of mine Tiger of PTS introduced it to me via Pop'n Music 8 on an official ASC. 2 years later I purchases a DA controller and took it up as my main bemani game. I started with 8 and moved up in order. I've been playing for around 3 years and I'm currently working my way through the harder half of the 42s.
It's nice to know there are other people in the area that play but it's hard to meet up with them regularly to play or chat. It especially kinda sucks that none of my immediate/close friends are into bemani or arcades at all.
Indian Curry is my top favorite dish.
Tournaments are fun even over IRC.
Nice to meet you

I got it with 2 other games (Last Blade 1 and King of Fighters 98 for PSX) cause there was a buy 2 get 1 free sale. I got it just on a whim not planning on playing it that much, and played it wayyyyyy more then other 2. I got my first pop'n controller as a christmas present. I've been following it since then, and although I don't play as much I still follow it very well (staying up till 5 am every week find out what the unlocks for the week are in Pop'n 17). I'm the old fogey. See back in my day heavy metal normal was thought to be impossible, and 4 people on a dreamcast controller could not beat Power folk 2 normal. Visual 1 Normal was actually hard. Those incredibly slow scales? IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!

My first game was Pop'n Music 13 and I went on to get 9, 11, 12 and 14. My friend bought me a mini around the time I got Pop'n Music 13. Got her into it, too.
I got into Pop'n Music through DDR. I played lots of "Daikenkai" and then decided to investigate the lovely blue-haired samurai in the BG. Roku hence forth is my favorite character, he's got sentimental value for peaking my interest in the series.
I've got an art book, I've made my own Roku plush, I have a Roku cosplay, and my Force cosplay is almost ready for AX09.
Yeah. Pop'n Music is the shit right there.
