I'm also named Ray, but people who have known me as a Bemani player longer know me as gs68. I'm 20 years old and live in Northern California.

My first experience with Pop'n was Pop'n 5 at an arcade in the Philippines, in 2004. Then Sunnyvale Golfland got a Pop'n 8 machine in 2006-ish and I played that every once in a while.

However, it wasn't until October of 2008 or so that I started playing Pop'n regularly and seriously, at SVGL on what is now Pop'n 16. In January this year, I got 13 CS and borrowed my friend's DASC for a bit, which I bought last month or so.

In no particular order...
Favorite songs: [Jewelry Rock] Jewelry Girl, [Beat Rock 3] Days, [Cyber Digi-Beat] Unlimited, Get Wild, Cat's Eye, [Tequila Dance] Passion Girl
Least favorite songs: [Crayon Shin-Chan], [Yuru-Pop], [Eurobeat] Twinbee ~Generation X~ (only due to timing), [Instrumental] airflow (also due to timing)
Favorite characters: A. Michel, Hugh (both versions, but preferbably 13 CS), Timer (16), Minit's, Vic Viper, Ophelia, SigSig
Least favorite characters: Zina, Uowo, Lord British (though for only one reason: it's not really LB; it's just palette-swapped VV. You can't fool me!)
Comfortable level range: 27-29
Maximum level range: 31-33
Versions with access to: 16 AC, 13 CS
A little confession: I have a crush on A. Michel and he's the reason I started regularly playing. >_>

Also, I have no desire to 100k songs. I'm always too freaked out that I'll get a GOOD somewhere in there (which does end up happening if I go through with my attempt).

I didn't realize your avatar was a person at first.

That being said, tell us more about your relationship with pop'n music

I thought it was a really fat cat at first glance. From that post, the fact that it was his first, his sig and his profile; I'm guessing he's just doing some advertising of some sort.

Updated my info here.

zorahk I'm curious how much did you have to shell out for that machine you said you bought? Must've been more than an arm and a leg's worth..

Ahaha I totally agree. Only because it shows how really lazy Konami used to be on the old CS games. This kid had like, 5 songs with his same sprite.

Then again on 16 and 17 they were even lazier with characters from anime songs and some crossovers.

Yeah. And they got away with making Boy/Kid/Sylvie have the exact same animations. Example. :\ Lazyness much?

Another detail about myself:
I'm a stickler for calling songs by their names instead of their genres, unless the title is in kanji that I don't know (i.e. every kanji except maybe 100-140 of them) or is an overly long Japanese title (regardless of whether it has kanji or not; my ability to read kana is still very slow).

If I must include genre for the sake of recognition, I refer to songs in the format of "[%GENRE] %TITLE."

I do this too actually. I call the ones I can recognize by their song name, but ones I can't by their genre.

My tier of importance goes

Song name -> Genre -> Artist -> Character -> Description of character.

So I refered to SuperMogu as "The crazy robot mole song" for the longest time.

In beatmania, I really don't think anyone refers to "高高度降下低高度開傘" by its full name.

Japanese players generally use the genres too, you know.

(also super mogu is chiteitanken (exploration of the depths of the earth))

My name is David, I'm 21. Been playing bemani since I stumbled across a rom of Beatmani GB back in 1999 (don't ban me I own a copy now I swear).

Lesse, I played BM98 and stuff for a while before I finally had the means to get consoles/controllers/etc. I don't know what year it was exactly, maybe around 2002, had my introduction to popn through the Dreamcast releases. Played the hell out of them with a standard dreamcast controller. Then once I got my psx I played all of those on dualshock, and after I got my ps2 played up through 9 on dualshock until I got my mini2 right around when 10 came out.

First 40 I passed on mini was Melo-Punk, got my ASC in 2005. Built it with graduation money. After a couple weeks I passed my first 40 on ASC, think it was Sa-Da-Me. Currently working through 40s and 41s. My primary bemani is Beatmania2dx, favorite is probably Drummania, but I still have put a good amount of time into Pop'n and do my best to play regularly.
