The originals are obviously selling for a higher price than the BEST versions. o.O;
Is it simply boxart and packaging changes, or is it something major like disc and game feature alterations?

-Game wise, they are exactly the same. Songs were not added or removed.
-Disc has a small Konami the Best logo just under the center hole. Konami logo is replaced with the newer logo.
-The cover has a reduced image with a border around it, but...
-the cover is reversible. The inside cover is almost exactly the same as the original. -Konami logo is replaced with the newer logo on the older games.
-A small Konami the Best logo is on the spine.
-The game name is in black on the Best versions instead of dark blue on the spine. -Manuals are the same except the Best logo and Konami logo changes.
-The Best versions are much cheaper and more readily available.
I think that covers the most noticeable differences. The most obvious is the "red dot" logo on the spine on the reverse side of the Konami the Best editions. Unless you are the kind who really has to have the original edition, there is no functional difference between the releases. The aesthetic differences are quite minor.

Pop'n 10 has been out under the Best label at least since this summer (since I bought mine in japan then), but 11 is still not out. Do you guys think it will be released as Best in due time?

This is pure speculation, though.
BTW, I really liked 11 too, but this is not unrelated to the fact that I really like British accents. (We love Pop'n Music!)

Its by far the best of the "Old" versions. Then if you do like it, i'd get 12 or 14.

If you plan on playing your discs, get the cheaper version.

Also, who wants to bet 11-14 go BEST series a couple months after Adventure CS? Wishful thinking? Probably. Konami isn't known to follow patterns.

And I'm not sure what you have against the interface or how it makes it "unplayable", I've heard people call it ugly and I'd be hard pressed to disagree, but the only downside it has is it maxes out at high speed 4. And you can counteract that with towelling.
