Marketplace Rating: 0 | Leveling up question How long does it takes for you people to reach the level you are playing at? Do you people usually just play pop'n music until you reached the level you are or there are other bemani games that you play along as much as pop'n music?
I played for 8 months and so far for three months, i haven't been able to pass most 37 and above.

I personally don't play any other bemani game, but I just tend to keep playing songs when I hit a wall. Keep playing songs you fail, as well as playing songs you can pass.
I've found if you have trouble with certain chords that playing easier songs on random or s-random helps for practice.
Just keep playing and it'll click. I'll leave the better details to be covered by the more experienced players here. :P

Actually the way I got good was playing at arcade and keeping my timing up at home. But honestly I gave up playing at home a while ago though I have a plan in motion to fix that which involves wasting massive amounts of $$$.
anyhow, I think it's easier to get good playing at the arcade.

Yeah what seems to work for me was switching between games. I went from 12 where I couldn't touch Curus Hyper, then played 14 till I unlocked it, then went back to 12 and passed curus hyper first try.
Guess I need to obtain the other games now too...

What helps me get better is when new mixes come out. It allows me access to new songs and styles of difficulty and usually the time it takes to unlock the game makes a great improvement in my skill when I go back to the older games.
My initial progression through the game was pretty fast at first but drastically slowed down after FEVER CS came out. This was due to no new CS mixes being released, school, moving, roommates, girlfriend, life, stuff, excuses.
Playing IIDX is improving my skills in pop'n music. The two games go together quite nice.

Marketplace Rating: 0 | Wow! I guess i really need to keep playing between those two games :/
I only play like 4 games of Pop'n (There's only Pop'n 16 here, no The MOVIE) per week at the arcade and only 2 games in IIDX.
I'm also playing DMGF a lot so i guess i need to cut down on those and concentrate more on the the other two.
It's not cheap here in Singapore. 1 game of Pop'n is around US$1.75 and IIDX with e-amuse is US$2.75 per game.
And i do not have a home version.

Marketplace Rating: 1 | It takes a while to climb the 37/38 wall. I know I've had my struggles with it.
Everyone's covered all of the basic points except for one, which may be the most brokenly powerful tactic, if done with the right timing -- Stop playing the game.
I'm serious. Not forever, of course (I wouldn't want to encourage people to drop the game entirely!); just for a time. It very much helps if you play other rhythm games as an aside to fill the time during your hiatus.
What this does is that it basically gets rid of any bad habits you may possess. When you come back to pop'n in two or three weeks, you may notice (after warming up, it's been a while, after all!) that you can attack particular patterns in better ways.
Case in point - I stopped playing for about three weeks to work on my DrumMania skill; when I came back, I was able to clear three more 42s, of which one (IDM [EX]) had been stumping me for the longest time because of the scales at the end.

I can say the switching between IIDX and Pop'n works.
Never touched Pop'n before, but since I played IIDX I was able to do some stuff a bit...although figuring out where to hit the notes was the hardest part for me.
Switched back and forth between IIDX and Pop'n...I was passing some 37-40 in four months and never played it before.
Of course I'm also a sinner and use Beat-pop. :x Quote: |

| Holy god. So expensive. I cringed at paying even near 200 yen a game when I lived in Japan. >_>
I was a tight wad and hunted for 100 yen cabs.
I seriously commend you for paying that much, that takes some dedication.

Marketplace Rating: 2 | Everything snare said works, but I should add that stopping is a double edged sword. You will be able to pass stuff you used to not be able to pass, but your timing will go to shit in the process and it will take quite a few rounds (EG: WASTED MONEY) to get it back.
For example, I hadn't played for 2 weeks and tried to play Hashire! Scooter EX. My record on that is like a 98k, it's also an easy 38. I got an 89k with hella goods.
LOL TIMING. | |

LOL TIMING. | This is very true if you don't actively play a different game (with timing windows - GH/RB won't work as well!) on the side. The tighter the timing, the better ('sup IIDX, DJ Max, DDR/derivatives with Marv timing).

What should I do to fix the following:
I feel like I can pass half of the 39's in the game but not the other half.
For example, no problem with crap like tozan or naniwakko boogie but I basically screw up the end to CN2 and Toy Contemporary and countless others.
I think I fail at fast rolls especially

Marketplace Rating: 2 | Probably will be there starting at around noon, I have a math placement exam for a summer class starting at 9:00am, so I'll probably get out of here around 11:00am. If you are there, that would be cool. Yeah it's 5/18.
I have a feeling the problem is my lack of thumb strength.

Marketplace Rating: 1 | Perfect. I get out of my first Monday class at 12:10, so heyyyyyy, I guess I'll be seeing you there.
Slight off-topicness aside, I think perhaps if we're to continue that conversation, we should do it in the tech thread proper.
