Pop'n 10 Newb Questions

Hi. I'm a Pop'n newbie who just got 9+10 [home versions, of course] for Xmas, and I've got a few questions, about 10 specifically.

1. I got sick of the roulette unlock game [How does that even WORK anyways? O_O] and attemped to turn on time unlock. I got the minigame to stop appearing after each arcade game, does this mean time unlock is officially on, or is there another option I need to tweak to get it turned on?

2. In time unlock, will there be a notification that I unlocked something, or do I just need to check every so often?

Yup. When the roulette stops,that means Time Unlock is on.
You have to keep checking for unlocks.

There is no notification.

However when everything is unlocked all songs with EX mode will be unlocked.

Alright, great, thanks! Also, doesn't only the time you're playing a song count, not just, like...sitting at a menu?

And does time spent in free-play count as well, or just arcade mode?

I think it goes as:
Any time you are playing a song your timer goes up.

Be it Free Mode, Arcade Mode or Expert Mode.

IIRC, you just need to turn off the unlock mini game in the options.
