Also, when you are not playing, just test out different methods for scales at a pace that is comfortable to you. Then eventually build up speed until you reach your desired level.

Also I might as well address this query:the turban query

Hmm, which part of the song are you talking about? Are you refering to the alternations between the white and green with the left hand in the middle?
I'll work on the scales thing. I don't think I can hit them each individually. How I passed Cowboy [H] is beyond me, I've only been able to do it once and other times I'll come close or run out of energy.

The part where you hit the drums with the -- anyway, if you listen to it on an mp3, it's from 0:50, gets worse at 0:56, and ends at about 1:03. That alone ruins my groove bar (and here I can hit the scales.)

I think the reason I passed Turban was because... actually I don't know why, I really don't.

Oh, you will. Owen did after Kappa told him to, and he started 100king 40s immediately

Just don't do that before you're ready to, do it when you get to passing almost every 41, twee popper.

You'll see, AISYU-EURO and FEVER's tough charts are all extremely one-handed scale-with-16th chords-on-the-other-side type things.

I suppose, I guess, but I can imagine you doing a bit better because of it. I'm not saying you have to, but if you do, you don't have to start out on something like Miyabi EX lol.

I find that Tri Euro and Psyche or whatever have REALLY funky charts because of the one-handed scales and things like that, and a lot of the songs on the Top Ranker DVD have them too.

A) I don't do scales by alternating hands. I do them one handed for the most part, and I am reasonably good at them that way. You may be talking about how I stopped hitting the buttons with only one finger at a time, which did help me a lot, but it didn't really have anything to do with getting perfects on any 40s :P. Honestly, my technique in general is pretty poor. My Pop'n skill stems from my natural coordination, my ability to learn quickly, and my fast hands.

B) Double scales, more than anything else, are characteristic of many hard charts from 13 and 14, requiring you to scale quickly with both hands simultaneously. They are understandably much harder than standard scales, because a lot of the time they are fucking confusing and overly complex/fast (Hard PF's opening x_x).

That is all .

I have a small question that's controller-related.

Though I've been playing Pop'n for a year or so now, and a good friend of mine taught me the basics of playing (I can't go beyond 16 or 17 though because of how infrequently I play), I've decided to go and get the game for myself (I'm deciding between 12 and 13). The moot point is the controller, though - I would love to by the official one I've always used or even a Ransai, but I just don't have the money to afford that big sucker right now. I know there are smaller ones, but I wonder if anyone even likes those things because I hardly ever see anyone with them. Should I just save up for a bigger one?

Also, I do have a little trouble using both my fingers and my palms. I read somewhere that palms are okay for the first levels, but fingers are better when things get tricky. What's a good way to train yourself to use your fingers on the harder levels? Thanks for your consideration.

1) if you can spare the money for an ASC, get it. It will make the game a lot more fun with it. otherwise get a small controller and wait until you have enough, then get a DA or Ransai. Once I started on my Ransai-K I've not even thought about my popn mini.

2) Fingers are good for when things start to get crazy, but I'd just get used to moving my hands VERY FAST once you get around the high 20s/low 30s (sup cowboy hyper). A good way to train yourself, I guess, would be to choose a song with a stream that alternates between lower level buttons and higher level buttons. Or something of that nature. I started using my fingers for Gamelan Hyper as an example...

And that's all I've got. I'm sure the Lv40-41ers here have better info though, I've only been at this game for about 3 months and I'm barely around the low 30s....

Using your fingers is simply a matter of, well, using them. Don't be afraid to let your wrist move around, learn how much pressure or force it requires to register a button with your fingers, and use a little more than that. I started on a Pop'n Mini so it was really easy to get used to that feeling, but I'd say just experiment. Move your hands, your fingers, your wrists, your thumbs, etc. Just force the skill a bit and you'll get used to it, just like reading at higher speeds.

Im stuck at the 40 - 41 wall. Im having trouble getting passing new songs, but my scores for old songs keep getting better.

I guess the main problem is my right hand. With my left I use my fingers to do complex rolls and all that jazz, but my right hand is a useless pile. I cant get it to do rolls, I just quickly move it. Mainly this is because im Left-Handed.

What songs would reccommend to throw in training mode. Im forced to use mirror to help with progression, but I would like to practice and get my right hand as good as my left. Its really frustrating

If I was up that far, looking at the 40s and 41s up there, I'd say House EX, Joukyou Rap EX, and.... That's all I can think of.... The 100Ker people(Dewg, Arkie, Kaze[now plays PIU? quit popn?], Xythar, et cetera) may be able to give you better suggestions though...

Just keep playing, taking time off, playing some more, etc etc. It's tough for me to recommend right hand practice songs since personally I need quite the opposite, but I'd say try out some songs that are very chord heavy and require you to move a lot. Cyber Arabian EX and Flow Beat EX come to mind, as well as UK Hit Chart EX.

Or if you feel like hurting your pride, try Mixture EX on Mirror (Or without it). There's lots of simultaneous two hand patterns in that, and my useless left hand gets a damned good workout from it.

I'm just beginning to find intrest in Pop'n, and I will be soon importing Carnival. But, I want to ask this [probably stupid] question.

Play asia has two different types of pop'n controllers, both made by konami. The Pop'n controller, and the Pop'n controller 2. Which is better/is there a difference outside of the looks?
