those are only mini controllers, if you're looking for an arcade style controller you're better off getting ransai or da controller.

I on the otherhand just started playing since my arcade has finaly gotten popn 8. I'm not actually having trouble playing but I am having trouble trying to navigate the menus, any help would be appreciated?

Nope, I really don't care about arcade style right now, especially since I'm just starting out.

I was told by a friend that the Konami Pop'n Controller 2 is my best bet right now. Anyone have any feedback on it?

The Konami Pop'n Controller 2 is a solid buy. It's built well, has nice little domed buttons, and is loud as hell. The only problem with it is it's hypersensitive, so you may find yourself getting extra bads. And some chords are hard to get at unless you're a IIDX player.

EVENTUALLY you're going to want to get an ASC, because it's really a completely different game when you switch controllers, and tons more fun on an arcade style.

Yes, I play IIDX, so that's a good thing to hear

And yeah, I was eventually going to get an ASC, but funds are very limited at this point so I just want to get pop'n as fast as possible

Does anyone have any tips to doing fast rolls on a ASC?

I couldn't pass the song Hou'ou EX for 12 Iroha at a arcade, but I can pass it on my regular mini controller. My ASC is coming in about a week, and I wanted to get some information on how to do it, since I really like that song, and it would absolutely kill my moral to fail it. >_>

At the end there's basically lines of notes that go pretty fast and it has extra notes here and there. I just slide my hand back and forth on the mini, but I know I can't do that on the ASC... So what would you guys who are experienced and have a ASC do?

Move your hands really frigging fast and make sure to hit every note you can comprehend. The end of Hou'ou (Asian Concerto is a more recognizable name for it, by the way) is really tough, so just keep at it.

Yeah I suck at staircases but I've gotten slightly better. How long did it take you people who can do 42's to go from level 41 -> 42. I've been stuck in a rut lately. I can pass some 41's but 42's are just way out of my reach. Im still not comfortable playing 41's either, its a huge chore. Im assuming its one of the worst walls

im still around 40-41. its a huge barrier i think. i have only passed a few 41s..
42s are impossible . im not even close.
i still dont understand why it stops at 43...what a silly number to stop at.

After a month of playing, I've hit my real first 'wall'. I'm stuck in the 37/38 area. I only own Pop'n 9, which is what I attribute the problem to, but I ordered Carnival CS this morning, so in another month or whatever I'll have another game to play.

Anyway, I can do all of Hyper except Zen-Jazz (Speed mod problem) and Streams (a 40). I can do most of the EXs. I can do some of the 39s, but not Colors or Hyper JPop 3. Colors I can do up to the part with the two seperate beats on each hand, I just can't figure that out. I have the same problem on IIDX.

What songs should I practice on, or, alternatively, what techniques should I work on?

Oh yes. Those RANSAI(s) are no joke. I, too, am going to start out with a Pop'n Controller 2 and eventually get a ASC! I just hope that the controller isn't too loud.

The ASC or the Popn Controller 2?

They're both loud, but the ASC is MUCH louder-- however, my roommate is still able to take a nap through the noise somehow.

I find that it really helps to use your right elbow on the 9 button when necessary. Even though it isn't really that practical, I FC that end every time.

41->42 barrier isn't very tough. Just play Trauma Punk :P

If you're speaking about practically breaking the barrier and not cheating by playing Trauma Punk on pop'n 8 on difficulty 2 (diff. 3 is where it's at now), then go for Hard pf, Nightmare Carousel, or Hip Rock 3. Those are by far the easiest next to Trauma Punk.

You can jump difficulty levels even in that range, as Lamento is the last 41 you'll clear unless you whore it like hell, SCREEN is hilariously easy for a 43, Mou shimasen kara is also easy, and a couple 41s are just heavily luck-based. Don't play Grunge-Des or Oi Punk 0 thinking you're going to pass your first 42, because they're very advanced for 42s. Oi Punk is also a 42 now, and may be easier than the other three I mentioned, even on pop'n 7 difficulty 3. From my experience, tackling 42s requires training mode and patience, and a little bit of luck/towel, your choice. Core Dust beat was also a 42, but no one agrees <_< It should be a 40, really. Classic 7 used to be a 43 as well.

Kaizoku's problem is not the ending; that part should be easy, as I can FC it pretty much every time. The hard part is the part before it, remember to move your left hand VERY quickly, as you'll be doing 16th notes at 160 BPM back and forth over there. Not just ROLL, MOVE IT. PICK IT UP AND SPASM IT FROM 3-4 TO 1. Once you master that you've gotten pretty good at pop'n :X

Depa funk is up on robo's site I think, but I don't have the link for it. Play more on difficulty 3 on pop'n 9, then drop it back down to difficulty 2 if you have to. Depa funk is a 41 now as well, but it's still not as hard as SLASH BEATS, I still can't pass that on difficulty 3.
