Can I use this to update the pop'nomicon on VJ Army? There aren't ANY character profiles for the pop'n cast yet, unless you count Tran.

Just an update: it turns out that the pop'n music character illustration book (see this thread) contains more short biographies of the characters, along with where they live, their hobbies (I think), likes and dislikes.

One of my friends translated a bit of Jean's (he's from France and he dislikes "sultry people") and I was able to read that Knight is from England and A.Michel is from France. Just a bit of extra info to be had there, if anyone can translate more.

Hello everyone. I'm Madamluna's LJ friend the translator

I hope you all are enjoying them?

I'd just like to clarify a few things regarding them. First, you can use them for whatever you like and upload them wherever, so long as you credit me. Secondly, I don't want to rain on everybody's parade, but please go more slowly with the requests from now on. I've never played Pop'n music in my life, so while I enjoy the videos and the art, it's not really my area of fandom. I'm just helping Madamluna, and by extension all of you, out a little.

The thing that I think people don't realize is that translating is harder than it looks. Not only is the grammar very different, a good knowledge of Japanese characters is required. In cases where the text is unaccompanied by transliteration and the kanji is very small, it can be almost unreadable. So for several of these I've had to squint at the kanji to identify it by radical so I can work out the definition of what is usually the key meaning in the sentence. For example, when I took a cursory look at Anna's profile I guessed that one word meant 'carriage' - it turned out to be 'Ferris wheel'. That's significantly different, don't you think? It's important to me not to do a crap job on something I translate and spread misinformation, so it can take more than half an hour to parse one sentence.

Also, it takes madamluna time to scan the bio at a good enough resolution that I can read it without hurting my eyes.

So from now on, I'm not accepting any more requests until I clear those currently pending, and from then on not more than five at a time. Plus I reserve the right to quit at any time. Thanks for your understanding~!

PS: Vic Viper's bio is largely a summary of story info from the Gradius games. I'd rather concentrate on stuff who aren't as well known, if you don't mind.

As well as the grammatical and the fear of mistranslation that which you've already pointed out. So I applaud you for doing as much as you can. ^^;;
