Smile Pop'n Music PSX/DC Questions...

I'd like to eventually have ALL the Pop'n Music CS games. I was wondering if any of you knew which ones were more easy to get ahold of, the PSX ones or the DC ones? If I couldnt get all of them on one system, are they the same games or do the songlists differ for each system?

Also, if I got a dreamcast how would I go about playing imported games? I want an American one becuase I want to get some American games for it as well. Are there anti-mod codes on the PSX/DC versions of Pop'n, and where do you find the codes and how do you use them? I don't know about this stuff becuase I've only got one import game and it's for the PS2.

Sorry if any of this has been covered I looked through the section and didn't find anything.

Playing imports on a Dreamcast is the easiest thing you will ever do. All you need is a boot disc, which you can buy off Play-Asia (http://www.play-asia.com/SOap-23-83-j7a-50-13-71-w-49-en-70-uj.html). No modding required.

Actually I would suggest going for the PSX versions. Although yes, you just need a boot disc to load the DC ones, that doesn't help you with the Append Discs. Not only that, but the PS Pop'n controller won't be compatible, and there are actually more Pop'n Musics for PS1 than Dreamcast, if you count the extras like Animelo and Disney Tunes.

Plus a PS1 can be had for about ten bucks these days, and a full stealth modchip will run you about fifteen bucks, and they're easy as dirt to install.

Yeah, i saw a PSX for sale not too long ago and it was like $10 or $15 and it looked like it was in good condition. The mod chips or mod devices for the PS1 are very easy to install. I had one and it took me no longer than a minute to do. It was worth it back in the day.

3 & 4 are Append Discs games and boot discs won't work since you have to switch out games from 2 to these games. You can't go 2 > BD > 3/4, and without the bootdisc, 3/4 won't start up. Same with going from disc 1 to disc 2 of Skies of Arcadia.

Out of interest what are the differences between the PSX versions of Pop'n Music 1 - 4 and the DC versions?

I have a modded psx and DC so the append problem isn't a situation for me, I also own a DC to psx pad converter.

Also where is the best place to get Pop'n Music best hits from? Play-asia have sold out and there is a seller on ebay now but he won't ship to the UK ;_;

Thanx in advance.

According to GameFAQs and VJArmy wiki, the song library is the same. The only difference that I could see is that the first Pop'n for PSX unlocks songs by song count, where DC unlocks by total time.

Now, I have a question: Any idea whether a PS2 to Dreamcast converter (Total Control 2) works for a Pop'n ASC?

It should work. The only thing that could be wrong with it, it that it could lag. Give it a shot.

I tried DJ Dao's ASC with Pop'n Music 1 and 2 for DC with Total Control 2 and I simply couldn't get the controller to be recognized. Oh well.
