I just bought Pop'n 9 for my new Ps3 and it wont run. It just says "This disc cannot be started due to regional restrictions." when I try to start it. I thought the Ps3 was supposed to be region free. 
Anyone else having any problems like this or know why this is happening? | |

I think PS3 is only region-free with PS3 games, or it may not be region free, but I'm not sure. Someone else should confirm. | |

Gah, that means I just shelled out over $100 for a bunch of pop'n music stuff that I cant even use. Oh well, thanks anyway for letting me know. Guess it's time to buy a japanese ps2. :/ | |

This is a common misconception. However, it is better to have an American ps3 with a Japanese ps2 rather than the other way around. The japanese ps3 does indeed have problems with some bemani titles especially with early Pop'n Music games. | |

Well, that and the whole compatibility problem being that the PS3 doesn't have any PSX/PS2 controller ports, you know besides the games not working. Just buy the JPS2 or fliptop/modchip/whatever.

I already own an american ps2 and the ps3 games are region free, so why bother with an american ps3? | |

besides that new nyko adapter, how do you plan on actually playing these games with their original controllers?
I have a ps3 as well and you do realize its all usb right? Just saying, thats even more cash *not much, but more none the less* that you would have to blow on this.
