Default Start Button

I bought a asc on here that stated that it had lights. It doesn't. I managed to just deal with that but the start button doesn't work. I have to plug in a dual shock and I shouldn't have to do that.

Its a ransai and since the forums are inactive can anybody help me?

Chances are that the microswitch for the start button isn't working, so you might have to get a new microswitch for your start button. As for the wiring and such, I'm not completely knowledgable on that, but there are other users who patrol around here that know more about the wiring situation.

I'm technically an official Ransai guy, so consider me an internet zombie of sorts.

It sounds like some wires may have come loose in shipping. The controller might actually have lights, but they've come unwired. When you get a chance, open it up and check to see if there's any loose wires. If they are, look at the other switches as a reference to get an idea of where the disconnected wire should go, then reconnect it. That should fix the start button and if there's lights it might fix that as well.

An easy way to check for lights is to see how many wires are attached to each switch. If there's two on each, I can pretty much guarantee there's no lights. If there's three, there's probably lights. If there's no AC jack or battery clips, however, you're going to need to add one of those to it, which isn't incredibly hard to do, and I can run you through what you'd need to do to get that up and running.

Thanks, so if there are three wires then there are lights?

So I need replacement bulbs?

There's a good chance of it, yes. To be 100% sure, look at the controller PCB. If there's a little black cylinder soldered before each wire (controller > cylinder > wire) directly to the board, there's diodes installed, which are needed for lighting.

To check for bulbs, the microswitches should just be able to be pulled out so you can check if there's bulbs in there, I know for some time Ransais were originally shipped with incandescent bulbs, but you might get better results with LEDs.

Whichever you go with, the major thing is they're miniature wedge-base bulbs, type/size 194. Superbrightleds.com has a decent selection and that's where I got mine. You don't have an infinite amount of space to work with, so get smaller bulbs. (I have 4-cluster LEDs but the wide-angle single LEDs work too.) Colormatching is also a good idea, since white tends to just wash out the button color and looks kinda weird.

If you're not sure, take pictures and I can take a look at it for you.
