Not saying they all do, but it's a personal experience I've had. | Thanks, guys, but with those two completely different responses, color me confused as ever. Maybe I'm out of touch with these things because I'm out of college while most of you are probably still in high school. Or it could be because I wouldn't be caught dead anywhere near that shithole known as 4-chan that so many people these days blindly idolize.
But yeah. The only thing you two said in common was "kawaii," but there are bands in Pop'n that mostly do stuff that's even "cuter" like Parquets or Rururu System. So, I'm still not getting why those two are the only ones out of the hundreds of bands in Pop'n with that stigma. I mean, it's not like they're my favorites or anything, but I like a few songs from each, so it sucks to see them get stereotyped like this. Quote:

Because if there's one thing I hate just as much as them, it's 4-channers, and seeing people use their terms makes me want to puke. But yeah, I don't think all of BeForU's songs can be lumped together so easily. Would you consider Chikara or Break Down to be "high pitched Japanese pop"?

The same people who mostly pick the Terra songs and the beforyou songs are probably just more familiar with DDR or something. They'll notice Flowers on 16 and go play it, then find Miracle Fucker and go play that cause its a familiar artist.
I think the whole "weeaboo" thing is if they picked ONLY terra and beforyou songs. We had to suffer butterfly and la copa de la vida on DDR, Wouldn't it be annoying to hear the same terra/beforyou songs over and over?

And because most of Terra's songs are bad except for hyper japanesque which is actually decent. But hyper J-rock for example is abysmal.

Familiar songs (namely, licenses, although I think GFdm does this much, much better) are a huge factor in attracting new players to the game.
I've honestly never seen the kinds of people you two (that is, zorahk and Lyte) mention even give a crack at pop'n -- and I set up and watched over my pop'n setup for a pretty long while at Fanime, an anime convention full of the supposed clientele you two speak of! The only conclusion I could draw from that experience is that most of the time, pop'n looks way too hard for any casual on-looker ('Japanophile' or not) to even give it a shot.
If anything, the aforementioned people who have never seen the game going "UH WHAT THE HELL" and saying crap like "oh my god you are like the *looks at title* pop'n music master can I take a picture with you? also do you have a myspace" irk me. No joke, that happened to me, like, twice at SVGL and it bugged the hell out of me - why can't I just play my game in peace :<

I've seen those kinds of people at SVGL once or twice. They're probably the same people who spilled a drink on the machine like half a year ago.

I wasn't making the DDR connection because I haven't played it since Extreme, so I had no idea there were any Terra songs in DDR. But yeah, those types are all over DDR from what I've seen, not gonna argue with you there. Quote: |

| You got a point there. Come to think of it, the only Terra song I can think of that I like is Miracle Flyer. The rest range from average to bad for me. Quote:

I haven't played arcade Pop'n for a few years so things might be different now, but I don't remember those types ever playing Pop'n. Every now and then, I would see one of them watch for a while or make a dumb comment, but never actually try it.
Oh, and my bad for derailing the topic, guys.

ex-TGA member here. I never really noticed what other players there played mostly because noone would play the pop'n. Every time I went, I pretty much had Party to myself.
... Hah, thats another thing that annoys me. I Kinda wish more people around my area got into pop'n. All my bros are IIDX people mostly. Yeah its fun, but pop'n is more fun =3
