Default Upgrading a PNM Cab

I recently acquired a PNM3 is basically new condition. Everything is in relative working order, but now with the launch of ADVENTURE and the BemaniPC, I'd like to see if I can get to FEVER for cheap.

Since 1-3 use DJMAIN then 4-8 use Firebeat and 9-14 use Viper, is it possible to go directly to Viper and skip the Firebeat hardware? I haven't ever seen the insides of a FEVER machine, but I would assume that you could just plop a FEVER machine into the cabinet and have it work just fine?

Any help here is appreciated

Yep. You can skip them like you said. I would check Yahoo Japan Auctions, as kits are pretty cheap now.

So I've heard that upgrading from DJMAIN to another version requires a new JAMMA harness which is quite expensive. Any idea how that works?

Never heard of that. My friend had a Pop'n Music 1 US version, and we upgraded straight to Fever from that. No problems there.

Hm, then if you don't mind me asking- do you know how much it cost to upgrade your friends machine? Just as an FYI, I'm being quoted $2500 for the upgrade to POPN14 now from 3rd. Which seems about 1500-2000 over what the upgrades are going for on Y! Japan.

I'm being told that there's is a harness that I have to buy as well in addition to the Viper hardware. Maybe that was included in the package you used to upgrade?

My worry here is that I buy one of those popn14 upgrades online only to get most of what I need and missing crucial parts. This whole thing reeks of the USB I/O board fiasco plauging 8th Style owners trying to upgrade. Like there's some essential piece of hardware that you can only get from gutted machines so you can't buy them from Konami and you'll only get it with a new machine.

Yeah, I got the full PCB for 14 when it was upgraded. It included that harness. A friend of mine told me that it would cost around 1 grand total about for the upgrade. I doubt the ones on yahoo japan auctions is what you are looking for. Make sure it is the full PCB for Fever.

Kit yes, upgrade kit, not so much.

Upgrades are software only. You need the boards the software runs on too.

Here's my first PopN, I built it around a PopN 8 kit.
