Want to get into the series but only own a IIDX controller.

Pop'n 9 and 10 can be found for cheap at Play Asia but they are not selling the controller currently. I'm not interested at getting a ASC style as I will only play for leisure and for the music. I'm not going for any records plus the hardest IIDX songs I can pass are 6s. , , Can you play 9 & 10 with the IIDX controller? Can you unlock stuff with only 5 keys mode? Thank you.

you'd think you could map the turntable to Lwhite and Lyellow, and then the other buttons as you'd expect so you can play in 9-button mode.
be confusing, though.

Back on topic: Back when I was waiting for my DASC to come in, I attempted playing on a IIDX controller, and it really does suck. I'd advise getting a dedicated controller if you can, mini-con being okay, ASC being optimal (it is, indeed, the way the game was meant to be played).

Play on a PS2 controller before an IIDX controller. Still no where near a Pop'n ASC, but a much better experience.

Thank you for your inputs guys. I was pretty good at 5 key beatmania with a dual shock. If I really enjoy the game through the music, I might just go for a ASC style. More inputs and anecdotes would be appreciated.

You could always do as I do by the way. By far the cheapest option and it's still pretty fucking fun. There's a video floating around of a guy FCing Progbaro EX with 7 goods using the same dualshock setup that I use, so there's no limit to how good you can get.

Also, I tried playing Pop'n with 2 IIDX KOCs once. That was actually really fun (left hand - buttons 1-5, and right hand - buttons 5-9), but a hassle to set up. Feels a lot like playing on the mini.
