Default Wanting to try out Pop'n Music

Well, for the past couple of months I've been watching videos of people playing Pop'n Music and the game seems like a lot of fun to me. Now, I've only seen Pop'n Music games in Japanese (play-asia.com). This has got me worried since a friend of mine told me that Japanese games won't work on American PS2s. So my question is:

Does the game work on an American PS2 regardless of it being from Japan, or will I have to modify my PS2?

Also. Which of the many Pop'n Music games would you recommend for someone who has never played Beatmania IIDX(whatever it's called) or Pop'n Music before?

Thanks in advanced.

Unfortunately you will need to mod your PS2 to play Japanese games. However, with a flip-top mod it's actually fairly cheap. As for games to start off with, I'd reccomend either Pop'n 8 or 13. Both have excellent song lists and are a lot of fun. If you need anymore information let me know.

Can this flip-top mod be done on a Slim PS2? If so, how much will it cost me?

Wow I wish I had found that fliptop before I bought my magic switch with swap magic. I don't like having to play with my ps2 open and fiddling around with part c to engage the laser.

Ah. Good question. I didn't think about that until now. Oh, and I don't think I'm gonna be buying the flip-top mod. With shipping and handling it's $50. Not $30.

I really wanna play this game. I don't know what I'm gonna do...

50 is much better than buying a Japanese PS2 And that probably is the best price you will get for the CD's and flip top mod (unless you find someone who has it here or ebay)

Its a legit site though in case you are worried. I've ordered from it before.

If you want, i can post a guide on how to use the TAPE MOD with your COOL SLIMLINE PS2.

Please do. If there isn't any risk of me damaging my console, I'll possibly do it.

It's great to hear that you'd like to try Pop'n Music, but you should either accept the fact that the game is going to be expensive or drop out now. An additional $20 for a mod is really nothing when you consider the other expenses incurred in creating an acceptable home setup.

50 dollars isnt alot. Especially when you consider that this is around the same price as 1 pop'n music game. A fliptop plus the discs will give you an endless fun of being able to play import games, custom software, and backups.

Not only that, but if you do get into pop'n music, you will have to buy a controller, and trust me.. it's ALOT more than 50 bucks..
