3.9 and SM4 have different folder structures so you wouldn't actually have properly shared data. You're basically talking about having a frontend that selects the theme and then runs the appropriate SM, right?
Honestly it really amounts to the same thing to just have two installs. It isn't hard to do. It's good to have SM4 around to see what these guys are doing, but at the same time it breaks certain simfiles so I'd keep 3.9 for gameplay purposes, especially with, ah, some guy's simfiles.

And SM4 crashes when I turn on Random Movies, but it still works with an announcer meant for 3.9 (DDRMAX announcer to be exact).
As much as I try to avoid it, I guess it's inevitable, with the fact that there are 4 versions of Stepmania to choose from (3.9, 3.9+, 3.95, 4.0) with their own features. | |

I'd like to add to the "looks great" comments. And I don't even touch stepmania anymore. I could only imagine how it would've come out if you would've had more source material to work with.
I would like to say though that your site brings out the nitpicker in me. You have all sorts of stuff listed as "Bemani" in your song packs when they really aren't and only have a link to the games because the artist that made them happened to do a few songs in the series. Like Boss on Parade for example, which was written and made by DJ Technorch AGES before he was in IIDX, and hasn't even been featured in the game.
Otherwise it looks awesome. Almost makes me want to d/l stepmania again. | |

They're sorted by perception, actually--that is to say, if SLAKE were to make a new tune (and not have it feature in a Bemani game), it would still go in that section because of his association with the franchise. I'm fully aware of what you're talking about, in actuality, but it stays that way.
Does throw off a few people.
Let's not even get on the older files' slight alteration of song info as a trap for simfile thieves (it actually has worked before), haha.
