Default Going back into theme making attempt - some questions I have

As my DDR 1st Mix theme went all to hell last year, I have taken time off from theming, and need assistance with another project, this time in SM4.

1. Is is possible to not only do the DS EuroMix 2 cube animation in the music select screen, but set the animation speed equal to the BPM of the song presently highlighted? If so, how should I go about accomplishing this?

2. As seen from the now long gone screenshots of my 1st Mix theme, the implementations aren't perfect, the graphics are disproportinate, and miscolored, etc.

2a) If I am using arcade ripped graphics, and have them in their original resolution, what is the best way to resize them without them becoming all pixilated and weird looking? What guidelines should I follow?

2b) I am currently using the GIMP for re-sizing, and making the necessary parts of an image transparent, what is the best way to make the necessary components of a used image transparent without any loss of color/mis-coloring in the rest of the image?

1) The cube's animation is possible, getting it to sync with BPM is currently not.

2a) let StepMania handle the resizing. At least that's how I'd handle it. However, I love pixels, so maybe you'd want to get an answer from someone else on this topic.

Alternatively you could remake the graphics.

I can't answer 2b due to only using the GIMP for some effects and not general work.

Usually I hate pixels (which is why I prefer "DDR Green theme K" than "DDR Green theme T") but as long as they remain fairly unnoticeable, I wouldn't mind.

I'm not good at theming, but hopefully others who do make themes will say what they can say and give you few tips and tricks.
