Default [SM][mix] beware's ddr extreme simulation

this is an accurate simulation of ddr extreme arcade, based on stepmania, which is unpack and run (everything included. songs, bg videos, etc). it is a 650 MB download. This is also worth considering for anyone who wants/needs an instant, good looking, dance game/simulation, with minimal hassle.

file: beware_stepmania_extreme_r2.zip
size: 665,949,209
MD5: 43225ee474df0b41859dde43cd179cf9
SHA1: 9a2be92b70a421150cc7ab7206297943cbb6b548

direct download url. use the first, if it fails, use the second, and so on.

http://keternal.pestermom.com/beware...extreme_r2.zip

http://hentai.student.utwente.nl/bew...extreme_r2.zip

=================================
a minor update with some "bug fixes":
- i forgot to include the 2 patches for the lightsmanager code
- the BPM for "celebrate" should be 134, not 133.
- SKY high: complaint about bad sync at the begin (it's a bad cut in the original ddr song), fixed
- GET UP'N MOVE: the wrong song was included (from the solo version)

http://ddr.bircd.org/beware_stepmani...e_20080518.zip

unpack this over the beware extreme tree, overwriting files.

============================================
credits:
- Konami, for DDR.
- The Stepmania developers, for Stepmania.
- DDRUK for their song packs.
- SSGotenksUFO, T_Bone_X_Zeo, Amy, for lossless song rips
- ollec2004, Saotome2U, MagmarioX, Amy, and others for background videos.
- katze for his extreme announcer.
- AJ187 for extreme arcade ripped graphics

I have changed about every single aspect of the Stepmania setup:

- Stepmania code: lots of changes to the source code.
- Theme: made from scratch, using ripped graphics and metrics based on own observation.
- Noteskin: created beware extreme noteskin.
- Background videos: collected videos from various sources, encoded missing ones, and renamed (created beware BG videos 2005 pack).
- Background scripts: collected or made a script for all 240 songs.
- Songs/stepfiles: fixed some small errors in ddruk's stepfiles. Replaced all mp3's with oggs encoded (with aoTuV b5) from mostly lossless sources.
- Pad/cabinet lights:like DDR Extreme arcade.

Highlights/features:

Miscellanious:
- The exact same (240) songs as the DDR Extreme Arcade.
- The size has been reduced by removing unnessesary things. It now fits neatly on a standard 80-minute CD-R.
- Credits indicators: original SM behavior in "home" mode. In free play and pay mode, they show all the time, as in ddr. "Event mode" text shows in the middle.
- Arcade style event mode option added. Among other things, automatically toggles some SM settings to the right setting for event mode on or off.
- Freeze jumps now count as one OK, not 2.
- Scoring is exactly like DDR Extreme arcade.
- Judge window times: I saw in a video that the boo window appears to be ~0.16 secs (the delay before a miss appears). The actual timing is between "theory 1" and "theory 2". The "PERFECT" window is 33ms.
- Extra stage and one more extra stage are like DDR Extreme - same song, same mods.
- All music wheel entries for songs, groups, ABC sort, and random/roulette show the ripped graphics images.

Beginner helper/characters:
- By default, the beginner helpers show, but dancing characters don't. It's also possible to disable or enable both.

Ranking songs/courses, highscores:
- The correct courses and ranking are shown in the highscore screen (pop4, naoki neo standard, dancemania oni).
- Highscore screens have exact layout.

Select style:
- Separate pad and character animations.
- Player 1 shows konsento (robot), player 2 shows zukin (girl).

Select difficulty:
- In "Double" mode, beginner difficulty cannot be chosen.

select music:
- BPM has scrolling animation.
- The same sort modes and lists as the arcade (default list of songs, groups, ABC sort, etc), graphics look accurately like ddr.
- The same "codes" for mods as in DDR Extreme.
- Feet/difficulty look correct.

Select options:
- Shows the option icons.
- Shows the difficulty icons.
- Exactly the same options and same layout/fonts as the arcade.
- The highlight bars look correct (green for p1, brown for p2).
- Graphical option icons.

Gameplay screen:
- Note colors should be exactly the same as the arcade (based on ex cs jp emulator screenshots).
- White "explosions" for "Marvelous" accurate steps, even if "Marvelous" is not used.
- The timing of the white things on the arrows, and the receptor arrows, is correct.

Gameplay oni screen:
- Red flashing life/score areas if you lose lives.
- Dance points indicator animates when stepping on arrows.

Evaluation screen:
- Correct fonts and layout for everything.
- Max combo flashes if full combo. Oni "stages" flashes if all cleared.
- The percentage bar in oni mode works.
- Exact grades settle animation.

Could you upload the theme separately or something? That looks amazing but I don't want the sims.

Plus are the noteskins updated since the last release from a year or so ago? For example, are the arrows that start a freeze arrow on Note still using the default SM arrow graphic or are they now DDR-ified?

edit, just realized it's a modified source code SM, but do you think you could upload that w/ the theme? what i mean is, the stuff that doesn't have the actual song content

http://ddr.bircd.org/beware_extreme_lite.zip 23 MB.

- program
- theme
- announcer
- noteskin
- stepmania.ini

note the theme has hardcoded song/course lists in the metrics, which you need to disable or edit. (every list has an "enable" flag above it)

the noteskin is the same as "beware extreme noteskin" (except there's a "solo flat" noteskin added to simulate a ddr "feature"), the latest version is always on

Hmm, if you were able to change the scoring to accurately reflect that of EX, could you make similar changes to make another build with NOVA scoring?

probably not, as ex scoring required only minor fixes to SM's max2 scoring
1: enable a rounding routine, which is optional in SM and disabled by default.
2: count freeze jumps as one OK or NG, not 2.
3: bugfix: count the NG (SM didnt do this)

supernova would require someone knowing how it works, and implementing a whole new scoring engine. and it would only make sense in the right context (SN theming)

NOVA is really simple scoring-wise. Perfect/OK = 2, Great = 1, all else = 0; score at any point in the song is 5,000,000 * (current DP / steps in song).

And no, of course I don't mean your EX theme should use NOVA scoring.

its not something im going to code as it would be a considerable amount of work, and its not like what i did (as i explained), and not something i need. it may need some serious SM hacking/reorganization just to add it.

Very nice job Beware. Really nice having the timing for it, along with all the movies. Excellent use of space as well. ^_^

edit

so I was having these weird "DLL missing" errors so I copied 'em from the standard sm 3.9, then it said "missing characters/default" so I copied that in as well. now, after loading all the externally loaded songs, the process simply ends (stepmania.exe disappeared). whats going on here??

1: that's because it's not a theme feature. it's a patch. it cannot be done with theming.

2: youre supposed to copy this (the "light" zip i made) over a working SM 3.9 tree. its not working by itself. only the full release is autonomous. also note that this exe is incompatible with normal themes, so if you also want to use other themes, rename the default stepmania.exe and .vdi to "stepmania_orig.exe" or so.

if i put Additional Song Folders like normal, the game will run but I see no songs in the musicwheel. Exactly what in the metrics.ini file do I need to change to get that to work?

nevermind, figured out i had to change sort for it to display.

Why is the frame rate crippled to 30 FPS in gameplay? can this be disabled?

Also:
