The executable. file. The executable file. Stepmania.exe. Beware modified the source code and so you have to use his executable, run from within his folder structure contained in the zip file. It's in the Program folder that's in the zip file.

Maybe the confusion is that this isn't actually a theme, it's its own program, independent of your own Stepmania installation.

I got it to work. I opened it with WinZip. If you needed to open it with something in the file, what's the point?

I was wondering how the default sort was made. I tried to make one myself but it's not working. Here's how I did it.:

It's still sorted by group, not by that list. I also typed 'DefaultSort=DEFAULTLIST' under [GameState] and [ScreenSelectMusic]. Anybody actually know how it's done?

I'm very.. sorry to revive this old topic, but I found more stuff in the theme and thought it was interesting to point it out...

Beware Extreme:

DDR Extreme:

There are some differences:
- The location of the "joint premium" icon
- The text below the selected style explanation. It shows the "to select the other options press the 2p start button" text instead of "available options depend of the joined players"
- The "[green button] to join" text at the right
- The other 2 options (Versus and Double) should be grayed out and unavailable until the other player presses Start.

thanks for pointing out these differences related to joint premium. not sure if or when i'll look at it because joint premium may be a less common option.

this is an accurate simulation of ddr extreme arcade, based on stepmania
If your mission statement was to create something in Stepmania that simulated EXTREME as close as possible, wouldn't that mean you'd have to look at it eventually?

i'm not bothered to get every detail and every edge case correct. there's things that are currently impossible to get right (the beginner helpers, for example). for lesser used modes of operation (such as joint premium, perhaps), i'm inclined to say, don't use them. whether that means my extreme emulation is not accurate could be a discussion topic. it's relative. i think it's by far the most accurate you're going to find. i find it more important to fix inaccuracies you can hit "normally", such as errors in stepcharts.

a new update has been released, see the download url and instructions on the opening post. summary of new changes:

- rhythm and police: more accurate bg script
- redone "select style", with realistic "hilighted" icon, "buttons" can show on either side, and works in standard SM
- added setting to disable background videos
- max combo digits flash faster if AAA
- debounce patch
- don't repeat the same combo announcement in a song

edit: i found the bug-after-a-release: a bg video missing in xenon, prompting me to do a scan for missing BG videos. i found one more. i did a new update which puts in the missing BG videos.

Sorry for bumping an old topic but I just recently got my hands on this and it's awesome. If you're still out there "beware"; damn fine job.

I have a question about colors though, is anyone aware if beware's build recognizes the "#MENUCOLOR:;" tag which can be used in an ".sm" file?

The details of this tag can be seen here in the first post.

Ultimately I just want to be able to change the color of an individual song's title but I can't figure out if the option exists in beware's build.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help.

Anybody had any luck running this on OS X?

beware never released the source patches did he? If not it seems like I just need to run it in a Windows VM, which I fear might be too slow ...

EDIT: I mean, the readme definitely suggest patches should be there... but I just can't seem to find them... maybe I am just oblivious
EDIT 2: Think I found them in Themes/DDRextreme_beware/patches ... this was non-intuitive to me. I am working on getting a working build now.
EDIT 3: I got the trunk of the dead 4.0 branch to build on Lion, but 3.9 seems like it may be downright impossible.
