Over the past month or so, I've been tinkering around with sound effects in Arimasen's D3Mania skin. I had mentioned the idea in a previous thread
here. You can download the sound pack at:
http://rapidshare.com/files/12045801...ound_FX_.smzip It'll "install" over the original theme.
Not to deride Arimasen's work, I felt the sound was a little lacking. I more or less stole all of these sound effects from Doom 3 and the Doom 3 Trent Reznor mod (a mod that restores sound effects that had originally been made for the game by the Nine Inch Nails founder, they were removed from the final game).
Things you'll notice:- Difficulty and style selection screens! I won't spoil the surprise, though...
- Song wheel is designed to sound like the plasma gun; I had originally planned on the chaingun, but I couldn't get seperate sounds for opening and closing sections of the wheel. I feel the plasma gun sounds even cooler.
- Changing the difficulty on the song selection screen yields delightfully unnerving zombie commando banter
- Plenty of other sounds are replaced with gunfire
- Several song loops have been implemented; the main menu uses "Hangarmegeddon" from a fan-made compilation known as "The Dark Side Of Phobos", I sampled a different section of the Doom 3 Theme than what appeared in the original theme, I also found a really creepy synth loop and stuck it in the options and song evaluation menus
- I can't remember if I used radio chatter or not, listen for "Go forth and kill"
Note: Doom 3 fans will recognise the soul cube sound effect for the coin. I also used this as a place holder while working on the pack. If you hear it anywhere else, please let me know! Most importantly, let me know how my "work" (used verrry loosely) contributes to the atmosphere (if it in fact does)!
