Default Theme Installation Guide

Themes primarilly come packaged in one of 3 popular compressed files: .zip, .rar, or .smzip (designed for Stepmania only). There are other compression programs like .7z (7Zip) and others, but tose 3 are the most popular.

Anyways, you downloaded a theme and you are clueless as to wheere to extract the compressed file's contents. Here is how to extract them into the proper places:

-------

Please note that these are NOT STEPS, they are CHOICES. Don't follow them one after another, just choose ONE number and do it.

For .smzip files:
1) Just place it inside your Packages directory (that is if you don't plan on editing it later).
2) Open it, and the Stepmania autoextractor will load. Just click Next and it will auto-extract into your Themes folder.
3) Rename .smzip to .zip and drag the contents (usually a "Themes" folder with the theme inside) into the root Stepmania directory (NOT the Themes folder, but the root Stepmania directory).

For .zip or .rar (or other third party compression agents):
1) Unzip the theme into the "Themes" directory, so it looks like this:
C:\Program Files\Stepmania\Themes\THEME NAME HERE\metrics.ini
I gave the metrics.ini filename for a reference example as to where everything should go.

and for those that are clueless as to how to swap to the theme, you go to SM's Options menu then to appearance options (the first one in the default theme in both 3.9 and 4.0) and select the theme from the theme menu.

don't laugh, but we've already had one guy ask us how to change themes on the official SM boards. [view the thread]

Do you replace the folder. "When it says something that if you want to replace the folder bye that one do I replace it or I have to extract it somewhere else and then copy the files inside the theme folder and place it in the old theme of the current version of the StepMania downloaded... I think my question if simple but difficult to understand with the numerous informations...
