Theming basics

Yeah so I've been havin' fun for the last week or so creating my own graphics for 4.0. Decided to try to fix some things that were broke, but I just can't seem to find the right variable in the metrics file. I currently have 3 "unsolvable" problems.



1. Move the text on the music wheel left.
2. Remove the "FailEndOfSong"
3. You can see that top of the graphic missing on the lower-righthand corner. That's in the default theme too.

Tried changing:

[WheelItemBase]
TextOnCommand=
TextX=0
TextY=0

and

[MusicWheelItem]
SongNameX=-30
SongNameY=0

But so far nothing.

the first one is a confirmed bug that will be fixed in the next CVS.

the second one, I know it's a metrics command, but I can't find it anywhere in the 4.0 metrics.

the third one, I don't recall what that was, but I think it should be fixed in the next CVS.

So where does CVS fit into the whole "alpha, beta, RC" thing?



Edit: HAHA, Event was hidden under the banner box, can I fix that?

um... I'd say alpha or pre-alpha. Alpha versions come first, then Beta versions. then Release Candidates.

you may be able to get some help from the devs directly if you post over at the official StepMania Boards [clicky!]. considering that I know very little about what has changed metric-wise with 4.0, I'm probably going to end up being of little help here.

Problems 1 and 3 are already fixed in latest CVS. We seriously need to get a new version out.

As for #2, look in BGAnimations\ScreenSelectMusic overlay\default.xml for this:

So am I using an old version of CVS? I did just redownload the Windows exe file from SourceForge the other day but the version I noticed was about 2 months old.

Edit: That xml file is awesome, editpad pro colorizes it and all the variables I've been trying to change are in them!

Well, the public release is old by about two months now, sadly. The best way of getting the latest copy of SM is to compile it yourself.

I'm seriously considering releasing an unofficial binary right about now.

I had released one yesterday, but one of the developers told me that I needed to include the SM Tools, which currently don't compile. I had to take the release down because of that.

Hey my theme crashed! I'll port over the graphics and continue making graphics until 4.0 RC1 or whatever it is I should wait for to create custom metrics that will be rendered useless in the next release.

Still though, this is delicious.

this is why I hate massive updates anyway. many things get broken on the metrics end, so theming becomes near-impossible.
