Current Concepts For Next Event

I would have the most interest in either the Recreations or Other's Selections ideas. Recreations is interesting because there are several songs used in the previous OSC's that I'd like to try my hand at stepping. Other's Selections would be interesting because I may end up stepping something which I wouldn't have thought of stepping otherwise. I also like the fact that both of these ideas would involve a specific list of allowed songs, which would make the process of choosing an entry much easier for me.

Mash-Up Duel is something I might try. Also, I must point out that the contest acronym would end up being OSC MUD. I'd be willing to try Neon FM style as well, particularly since I wasn't able to get a simfile completed for OSC 5, and thus missed the Solo chart challenge round.

Finally, the Ouendan idea is certainly an entertaining one (as anything based on such an odd game would be), but, as others have said, I don't think there are enough people capable of doing this for the idea to actually work. I've made (simple) animations before, so I'd be willing to give it a shot, but I'm not sure if I'd have the time necessary to pull it off.

I guess I misinterpreted OUENDAN. I thought we'd be taking songs + video from the game and making steps to them. I haven't played the game at all, so all the songs (and stories) are completely foregin to me. Has anyone else played this yet?

NK seems alright, I guess. I wouldn't mind learning a new format.

Well, there are only 15 songs in the game, which would limit entries somewhat, and the videos would be too hard to rip since it's on DS. He meant making your own Ouendan videos.

Hey, it's a fun game. But yeah, not uber-likely, as much as I would love to see it happen if we had more talented animations-drawing people.

Right now, I'm favoring one of the first two - yes it's limiting to have a defined song list, but on the other hand, that list could nonetheless have a fairly solid amount of variety. Further, the point of such a competition would be a challenge - limiting by category isn't nearly as much of a challenge.

Honestly, I'd rather just have good, new files, but I guess you're the one who's running it.

Challenge isn't just a case of limiting the songlist, tho. For the first option I could just pick some previous eurobeat song and write similar steps to the original steps, which would be easy. Whereas with an open song selection I could pick something difficult to step that would nonetheless be a much more interesting file if I managed to pull it off. It's all up to the entrant.

I think we should just have a regular run. Let's just use the new rules. Otherwise we won't really be able to tell whether the new rules are acceptable or not because everyone will be too busy saying "Why did we have to steps someone else's song choice?" or "It's no fair because I'm terrible at drawing".

Therefore, this is NOT about getting judged, its about having fun, like OSC 3 Psychopath Edition.

If Neko had to run another contest with another contest afterwards, ugh. That's a lot of stress from the Internet, yes?

Oh well, in the end I'll either make the file I'm planning for this or I'll just release it normally if it doesn't fit in the theme.

If you want a competition during the Christmas season, it's having a restriction placed. This is hammer-down, no exceptions, period. I am not going to go through the three-four months of crap involved in running a non-limited OSC - especially since we'll need a muchly new staff this year - until next Summer.

The category limit's specific purpose is to significantly reduce the number of entries to those who pretty much make them from scratch in short order - this being the challenge.

While you may be able to talk me into setting a genre-based challenge as opposed to current concepts, there is going to be a severe choice limiter. This part is not open for negotiation.

Ok, I see you point. Maybe I just didn't like any of the examples. A genre limitation sounds much better to me.
