Total Tokens: 73,737.12 Donate Tokens | DDR OSC BoNG Results - By Score This isn't the end of the competition, of course, there's still the final round, though it's a bit simpler this time (no simfile-based challenge round).
Overall, I don't feel this was the best-run way to close the OSC name, and I will definately be working with a new co-admin by the time the next competition in this vein rolls around. Let's just say that if things happen as we are expecting behind the scenes, the results should be quite interesting.
But that's looking ahead. This topic's about the RESULTS, and, well, here they are. Quite interesting ones, in fact. However, in the name of getting them up, I'm not going to be spending as much time on them as I have in the past with HTML'izing and everything. Right now, I am tired and simply wish to get the results - in full - up.
Let me say that one of the reforms next time will be reintroducing the spreadsheets for judge scores. x_X;
For all the details, hit up: http://ddrosc.bemanistyle.com/bong/results/
It's all neatly set up so you can see all the text (and HTML, and one XLS) files (including the_ditz's separate ones for every entry, and Lilina's monster review set of doom)
Note that one mistake was made in the rules, and a few more in the judgings themselves (one error by #Infinity was corrected, the others, in the name of getting this up reasonably on-time, were not hunted down). Judge modifiers are .5 for every .25 of difference, not 1 for every 2.5 (No one was that far out on a 1-10 scale!); this modification is applied to the Subtotal. However, this was not significant enough of a difference to change any positions.
Today's quickposting of the final winlist is brought to you by: forumboredom.com, where I'm going to be mostly hanging out for the next few months once all this is over! Finalists - These six entries advance to the finals, no questions asked:
Blow Me Away
Karma
Know Your Xenemy
Love Tropicana
Mata Hari
Metal Queen Wildcarders - Two of these six entries will get to advance to the final round, but they'll have to earn their way up, and this time around the test isn't going to be a simfile either!
Doctor Pressure
Ichirin no Hana
Kiss Kiss
September
V35
Votum Stellarum
Congratulations to our six excellent finalists. Given I wasn't too impressed by Blow Me Away, I was rather surprised to see it up there, but then again, that's why we have five opinions on the judge panel, right? The Wildcarders also are enjoyable and fine entries which contribute positively to this competition - you'll get your second shot at the finals soon enough.
I apologize for the overall disaster that DDR OSC ~Beta of New Generation~ has been (at least in my opinion), and I've already noted a few things that don't work and some that do.

I must say I was surprised to see Blow Me Away take first place, but it wasn't a bad file at all.

Anyway, Mata Hari's lack of extras was its downfall, but I'm more than happy with its performance on a basics level.

Also, I really wouldn't call BONG a disaster. More like, on the road of simfile making, BoNG is the steep, icy hill full of chuckholes. Thus, entirely navigable. And what's a beta without a heaping helping of learning from mistakes?

Total Tokens: 194,197.32 Donate Tokens | All in all, I'm not very surprised at the overall standings (although I didn't expect Metal Queen and Blow Me Away to be that high in the results). The finalists are all good simfiles. I'm slightly surprised that I made it into the catagory of "Wildcarders" because both public reviews didn't highly support my simfile. I'm also surprised at how well my stepcharts agreed with the judges, also because of the reviewer's opinions. I'm, however, highly disapointed with how well my graphics did. I actually though they were better than my Together graphics (and I still do)! And for the record, the clouds aren't "watermarks on a blue painting," as stated by the_ditz (sorry if I made this statement sound snotty...). I agree that the artist text was not great, but I don't go the same way with the background and text. Lilina stated that the clouds fit well with the sort of mystical trance song, which is exactly what I was aiming for, but I don't know why everyone else didn't agree. I thought the text was decent too, but I guess I don't have enough experience with graphics to decide what makes graphics amazingly fitting or not appropriate. As for the foldering penalties my simfile suffered, I did everything exactly as Neko stated (make "Songs" folder with "DDR OSC ~Beta of New Generation~" under), but I missed that one little nitpicky folder: a V35 folder... I don't know if this should be deducted by 2 points, in my opinion, becuase if you open a .zip file named "V35.zip", I think it's pretty self-explanitory that the files inside are going to go under a V35 folder. But if you guys disagree, please don't pummel me down with words of negative thought. I'm just writing this down as my own opinion. I think I've mentioned this before, but if I had known that extras would have effected a simfile's overall score by as much as it did, I would have most possibly added a video file in this to help my score more. I've noticed that I would have done very well with most of the judges if I only just made better graphics. As #Infinity stated, "Step-wise, you're absolutely fantastic. If you could only sharpen your ability to design graphics, you'll go over the top," which I agree. Not to be putting myself above everyone else's simfiles, which I strongly dislike when people assume that, but I would think the same as #Infinity did. If you check the overall step scores by the judges for V35, they're mostly above or around 5/6. But then if you check the graphics scores... yep. Well, I just hope I'll have enough experience next OSC to make more exciting graphics. In conclusion of this extremely long overview of my simfile, I wish everyone in the "Wildcarders" catagory the best of luck in the next round.
P.S. Sorry for making no paragraph breaks, besides this one of course, for those of you taking the time to read this message of thought.

Total Tokens: 5,579.26 Donate Tokens | The thing is that it's generally expected for people to put their files into a song folder before zipping them up. Not only is it slightly more convenient (e.g. I don't have to create the folder myself), but it's the thing that everyone does. Also, before using this computer (and Windows XP), I had to use a shareware version of WinZip that didn't show you whether the zipped files were in a folder or not. In that case I had to assume that the files were already in a folder because everyone else does that. It's just convenience, that's all.
OH... since you made the Songs and BoNG folders and put the files in the BoNG folder, well, you just put them in the wrong place. That's something completely different.
If you want, I can give a somewhat nuanced explanation on how you can improve your graphics. I'm not the best at those.
As for extras, well... they really shouldn't be the tipping point of who places where in a contest. I'm left wondering what happened to scoring out of 100, really.

Total Tokens: 7,463.40 Donate Tokens | I agree with Juub. Something seems wrong, and I knew it would happen. Blow Me Away won 1st? It, my entry, and Metal Queen all ranked higher than the highly favored Mata Hari and Doctor Pressure just because of their large disposals of extras?
In my opinion, extras were far too easy a way for participants to gain a significantly higher rank. While showing additional effort is nice, I fervently believe the ratings should be favoring the core elements of a simfile far more than the extras, which should exist entirely to just gain a bit of a boost for a nicer presentation and not to completely stretch an average simfile's rank above even the most professional creation that happened not to include bonuses.

That's not a 1-6 ranking up there, just a list of the definite finalists, dude.

Extras are okay to use to determine which songs get past the first round. They should not be used to determine who wins, sans maybe Challenge.
