My two cents.

Agree totally with LRX on the subtitle matter. The only tournament song I've seen that could have deserved a "(for Tournament)" didn't. (That of course would be "Kick Your A (Apparently Not For TM5)".) Unless you wrote a rearrangement specifically for the contest (or had one written, such as KYA) it's just a cut. And I specifically say "rearrangement." If the new song is a remix, bite the bullet and try to come up with a creative mix name.

CDTitles: I used to work with no CDTitles for my files (although the first one - Voulez Vous Danser from TM5 - had the album). Then I went with a collection for a while, then went the nDDRo way and went perfectionist. All that said, both are entirely acceptable. Inc's right. Names do mean something; in a pretentious way sure, but we're a niche community when you come down to it, so we have the right to be pretentious. My suggestion would be to include both a CDTitle and a PackTitle (to coin the term), put one in an \Extras\ directory and let the players choose.

(Also, SM really needs the option for multiple CDtitles. It's got special code in the metrics to handle the change between displaying the front and "the back", right? [famouslastwords] How hard could it be? [\flw])

And foreign titles? Yeah, plaintext unicode in SM #TITLE, .png for DWI #DISPLAYTITLE, and whichever's the standard and more likely to be searched for(transliteration or translation) in the remaining tags. I'd go with translit, just because you'll just get a if you tell somebody you like Big Opinion more than Blue Impulse.

(edit: woo, first post and it's a pagestarter)

KYA was a remix, tho, and it did have a 'creative remix name'. It also wasn't made for TM5 as I recall.

Anyway, like I said, I have verified that a number of the "for Extreme" songs are simple cuts of the original IIDX song. If it's good enough for Konami, it's good enough for me - so I stand by my use of "for" subtitles on Mei and BTE.

Also, I miss the O'Reilly O'Riginals CDtitle

You sure? I could have sworn at least one point (the quick breakdown before the wild piano) and maybe two (the transition to the lead-in before the speed double) were specifically re-arranged by SGX for A0's entry.

As for "creative remix name", it was already a remix/rearrangement on OCR before it was entered, and (if my assumption holds up) was just re-rearranged. What I meant by "creative remix name" was more "creative remix subtitle". "A (SGX's Kick Your A Mix)", as it were. Of course, OCR discourages "Game Track (Subtitle Mix)" in favor of just "Referential Title", so there you go.

Jury's still out here, but... I suppose there's a majority vote.

I'm a little tired of run on names too. I hate having extra folders. All I want are the songs and everybody's gotta put their own little spin on titles, throw a billion things in the brackets, make the titles longer than 64 characters. Follow some rules people. Also add a rule for not using spaces in titles, I find that quite aggrivating (instead I use hyphens for cross-platform filesystem compatibility).

I think that's a bit of an exaggeration on your part. I've never seen any simfiles with so much extra naming that it's annoying. Very few simfiles even have any extra naming at all.

And about the "no spaces in simfile names": What the heck is up with your position? Hyphens instead of spaces? I think that would be stupid. Spaces look so much better than hyphens.

Just my opinion.

I think he's talking about filenames, not the actual #TITLE tags. There's no way the string in #TITLE would affect compatibility between different file systems.

Ah. I see. Oh well, I still like spaces. It just makes everything look better.

Spaces are awesome.

Heck, my best friends are all spaces.
