Based on all the Expert stepcharts (and Hard stepcharts for those without Expert steps), I'm most impressed with Asteroid and Bad Boy so far. I also liked Clear Blue Water, but that song's disqualified now. Generally, it felt like the further you went alphabetically into the simfiles, the worse they got, although I did enjoy Stickshifts & Safetybelts. It was surprisingly fun to play on hard.

BTW, I'm sorry, but Mario Takes A Walk should be DQ'd for being horribly early. Had it been synced better, I actually would've liked it, but the steps are so off they don't seem to follow the song at all.

My official review for the ITG simfiles is coming, but I'd just thought I'd let you know what my impressions were so far.

Well, I know I asked for a Gradation video before, but I'd like the one where I don't get disqualified at the end if that's all the same to you.

Exclamation

Got some filming done tonight, as you can see ^_^ I'm uploading 13 videos right now.

* I made sure to sync all songs before playing them, so even if they're off it's fixed. (However, I can't fix it if it's human music and the bpm is not adjusted properly)

** All playthroughs are done on a sightread.

It seemed to me that Stickshifts and Safety Belts went off, and though the steps may seem fun on keyboard they are VERY ackward on pad, at least I found x_x; Had to play this because it seemed so out of place. (Also, I liked the song back in the day) It has potential, but just didn't work out well for me :\

Also played that Mario takes a Walk...wow...yeah...definitely off...and the expert steps are like...ummm....weird. Happened to play that tonight too.

XYYYYTHARRR: Already done, actually. Full-body! (Hands are not easy on a sightread @ 4x X_X; )

[edit]

Actually, the following best describes my view on Mario takes a walk:

Crono says:
Mario Takes a Walk = OMGWTF
Crono says:
I say halfway through "More like Mario Takes a DETERMINATOR"
PlatinumHawke ver.3 -鳥の詩- says:
o.O
Crono says:
Have you PLAYED it?
Crono says:
It's like happy happy lounge music
Crono says:
Then it's like DOOM DIE DEATH BLAARGH
Crono says:
Then it's like
Crono says:
happy happy lounge music

Regarding the first set of public reviews, what exactly is wrong with hands at the end of freezes if you give the player time to get up afterwards? O_o You can even just let go of the freeze and hit them if you want, thanks to the grace period.

Yeah, I don't see the problem with hands at the end of freeze arrows, Dance Dance from OSC 4 COMPLETELY whored that concept out, and it was #1 on my SM machine for the longest time before it went private. (It was usually between Alive, Dance Dance, Neo Max and a couple others)

Anyway, I have a bunch of videos uploaded, I think it's 13 in total, check out the SM machine thread to view the links!

That's strange. It doesn't cut off before the fadeout for me. Does this happen to any one else?

hamm: the double-steppy mine part is intentional. It's supposed to make you pay attention and play unconventionally. Compare shine*true Expert from StepMix. The early part with hands, I figure, is slow enough to not be too bad, and the alternative is quarter-note jumps that wouldn't fit in with the rest of the chart. Given that I'm not the biggest fan of hands either, I can understand that criticism.

Xythar: if you're referring to the same part as hamm, yes, it is intentional. Watch how the mines flow and you'll see exactly how it's supposed to be played. The song is slow enough that I think I can get away with it.

PRers get 40% free points to apply as they wish. Judges get 7%. Interesting...

That's what happens if you try to play a file with rolls in a version of Stepmania before 3.95. You might want to download that version or later (make a separate install of it if you like) to play the two songs with rolls (Speedy Cat and Jump as I recall, both on hard). I just put them into SMO and used that since I had it installed already and it was based on 4.0 (unlike my general-use SM install)

Yeah... In fact, some of the uses for those points that I've seen seem a bit questionable. Why would someone dock points for something they don't like about the steps once in the steps score, and then dock them again as part of "everything else"? Doesn't "everything else" suggest everything BUT steps? Meh.

It's supposed to mean that, yes.

As for the general "other 4 points" it's like that so people can get PRs done quicker to encourage them to review and play all the songs. When judges don't have time to review songs, making the public get in depth as the judges would result in even fewer PRs.

Actually, it should be synced perfectly. Remember, ITG's syncing is a bit ealier than DDR's, jumping on the beat instead of sinking into it, so that's exactly what I did for my entry.

I'm almost ready to give my review. I just need to check out a few more Hard stepcharts.
