Total Tokens: 73,762.12 Donate Tokens | OSC Remakes Collection - Concept This is the concept, and the concept only. This is subject to a metric asston of changes as people suggest ways to make this better.
The first part everyone needs to know, is that this would be judicated on a 'you pass / you fail' basis. What that means is that we won't accept ten-minute-shit-out steps (unless you're one of those people who's just really good at shitting out decent Light and Standard charts like me). In other words: We're expecting to make the resultant new content have significant quality. I'm not sure who the team who judicates this will be, especially after a few significant individuals left after... Particular incidences this time, other than to promise I won't be doing that solo.
Second thing: My idea here is sort of like the Anime Mix projects from way back, except with less stolen content. What I mean, is that I'd like to have this be a download of the new songs with a custom Stepmania theme to match. I'm not too sure on the specifics of the theme beyond a few concepts (I would like to have ITG-like percentage scoring, possibly the ITG progress bar, and a scroll system distinct from the normal DDR/ITG schema), but I definately want to get one designed up. Ideally, a mass download installer would be available which would be a pre-themed SM4 with the new songs and the old stuff as unlocks.
Third thing: I'm not sure whether to do it 'one file, one man' (not to be confused with one man, one file), or having teams for everything. What I am sure is that any and all remakes will at least be steps and graphics (though graphics might be similar to the old ones), and in some cases song edit too, depending on what volunteers are up for. I also want to have the songs selected be a cross-section of the best songs and stuff that could have been great with polishing - after all that's one reason we're here
Fourth and finally: Three to five charts per song. ALWAYS Light-Standard-Heavy (named Freestyle, Trick, and Power or some similar set of original names for theme purposes), usually a Challenge chart (I'm thinking Mayhem or Nightmare), and sometimes a Keyboard Edit chart (called, well, Keyboard.). Single only, unless we have a contingent who really wants to do double charts. Charts would preferably (except for the Expert/Mayhem/Nightmare and Keyboard difficulty levels) tend towards DDR style, but I'd like to use ITG's gimmacks and style to a fair extent as well.
This is only concepting right now. All of this is subject to change and ideas. What would you like to see out of an OSC Remakes Collection? Give your ideas here. Just remember the three core principles:
* NOT a competition
* Meant to create good results that people can easily enjoy.
* Meant to help get the community going on something friendly.

Thus , I would certainly be up for this idea. And I have more time now that I did during OSC5, so I won't have any problems actually getting stuff done.
Also, how will songs be chosen? Will we simply register our own choices, like an OSC, or will we vote on a song list and then require step artists to choose from that list, like virtualVisions?
My only suggestion for the project is that we avoid virtualVision's idea of requiring each chart for a given song to be made by a different person, as this can make it difficult to determine what difficulty to shoot for one the chart you're making. Of course, if we go with an OSC registration, then this would be a moot point anyways.

Total Tokens: 73,762.12 Donate Tokens | What BlueSS said. After some of the stupidity that happened during this competition, I am not running another in the short term - especially not given I'm in college now (which is why I didn't do the final round) and I'm by fiat the dude in charge of the next project since BlueSS has stated that he's leaving the competition.
I'm favoring 'multiple people per file' with the primary intent of getting more consistent graphics and further removing the competitive aspect. However, allowing one person to do multiple (though not necessarily all) stepcharts in one file would be okay, unlike vV, and collaboration (including 'clean-ups') would be encouraged, so the group for a song would be encouraged to start up a quick chat and get a loose consensus on difficulty levels. (Alternatively, we could set a rule of 'do all Heavy charts first, then STandard and Expert, then Light and Keyboard').
Songs used would be selected [i]in advance[i], mixing a small team of 3-4 people making their votes, and everyone else being able to request songs they want to see done (however, requests to do songs would not guaranteed result in your claiming that song or any part of it), outside requests being considered a major factor in the team's final selection. This selection would obviously increase with more volunteers.
I'm not sure on the difficulty names, though dedicating the 'easy' difficulty to freestyle-friendly basic steps (plenty of just plain easy stuff freestyles great though - Boom Boom Dollar for the win) targets the results to a more hardcore audience - which is kind of the OSC audience anyhow. I definately want original names.

When will they start, anyway? And exactly what "stupidity" have you noticed in OSC 5, anyway?

I'd check out ddrextreme.co.uk and see if they have anything coming up here soon if you guys are anxious for something right now in the terms of competition...
But please stick around for the remake project. | |
