Is there any specific file-naming scheme we should follow? Or does it not matter?

As long as it makes sense, is named properly according to the song, and works, it's good.

Although that wasn't one of my better CD titles, I hadn't figured out how to make alpha channel transparent PNGs at that point... :P

I just want to make sure I'm clear on this. We're not allowed to enter songs featured in OSC 3 or later, but we are allowed to enter songs featured in OSC 1 & 2? If this is accurate, then I'll need to rethink what I was planning to enter.

You are correct. Just remember that many people here still remember those original files; and whether that is good or bad is unknown.

I have another question: Let's say I'll be entering a PIU song in the ITG bracket. Let's also say I'll be using the same cut as PIU. If I happen to have the background video that goes with that song, would I be allowed to use it, or would it be looked upon as untasteful since the only thing I would have to make myself would be the steps?

It may be viewed that way, especially with the public - even more so if you rip graphics from pump.
There is nothing against using it, and videos aren't graded specifically; but there have been Pump entries before and they did ok.

it might be viewed as a bit lazy but I don't think that'll be against the rules

ranatalus and BlueSS both have that particular scheme basically down pat. Using the Pump BGVideos (or other videos for the source game) is not quite as impressive as using original videos (or at least mixing the official with original stuff). As a judge, I'd honestly prefer using the official BGVideo if possible, but I know plenty of judges who would disagree with me on that, and I'm only 1/5th of each Judge score, so if two judges disagree with me, it'd be strategically a little better to use original videos (though since they're extra it'd probably only mean a couple of points anyways).

I remember there was a guy last time who made his own video to DoLL instead of using the IIDX one and got some criticism for it, IIRC.

well that's a little different

the DoLL video is one that is seem as OGMOGMMOGG PERFECET so people are a little resistant to changing it

Furthermore, the DoLL video was just a bunch of Gundam Wing (I think) clips chained together, which didn't really impress so much...

I guess the proper way to put it is, "If you and a couple test-buddies feel your video is significantly better than the official after finishing it, it'll probably be seen as at least equal quality to the judges unless it falls into some problematic syndrome."

Decide if you can produce something that feels better than the official video or that is unique and good in it's own right. The DoLL video was mildly unique and reasonably good - except it didn't seem to match too well to the song in my opinion.

Really, it's up to the entrants. There's no rule on this, and quality comes first either way.
