Default All arrows are the same color?

I have a good Stepmania setup on my home computer. I run the Groove 2.1 skin on SM CVS version 3.95, and haven't had problems for years. I decided to burn my friend a copy of my setup, including skins and songs, and when I put it on his computer, all the arrows are the same color (the color of a quarter note). It's like I have flat turned on somewhere, but I don't. I tried changing between Metal/Cel skins, and both have the same problem. This wasn't an issue on my machine, and I haven't changed any .ini files or anything since I copied the directory over. The directory on his machine is a carbon copy of what is on my machine.

Does anyone know what the problem is? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT - I remembered that every time I start the program and try to play a song, I have to clear a few error messages. They say: "Multiple files match: Noteskins/dance/cel/[a bunch of different files]. Please remove all but one of these files", even though there is only one file of each name in said directory. I just mash enter, ignoring all these messages (it only happens on the first song, then I'm good again until I back out to the main menu), and on my home machine there's no problem... but maybe it's causing a problem here for some odd reason? Incidentally, what is causing this message when there are no duplicate files in these directories?

You can always just delete the old noteskins from the CD that copied to the hard drive, and download the noteskins over on your friend's computer, that would be an easy fix I assume.

For your EDIT problem- try searching your entire computer for said duplicate files. If you find that they exist somewhere else as well, that may be the problem, despite your .ini picking from a specific location.

I know for a fact that I've tried carbon-copying all my sims from my old PC to my Mac laptop, and there was a screwup somewhere. I don't know what- but it caused all of my files to have the wrong offsets and the wrong time in the preview music.

X_x As you can imagine, that was a mess taking care of.

I'm not sure what else to say. I hope it gets fixed soon.

It is because your graphic cards suck and so does 3.95. Either update your graphic drivers or get a new card. Otherwise you're stuck with crappy graphics.

I think there's a fix for the Flat problem over at stepmania.naota3k.com. It's only for Metal and Cel though.

I have a solution! If you get a clean copy of SM 3.95 and the VIP Groove 2.2 kit from the thread below, you have the theme and working noteskins. The thread is here: StepMania 3.95 CVS The downloads are in a large post at the bottom of the first page by ZanasoBayncuh. As for the songs, you can just copy them over. Hope I helped!

you can set default mods on startup in one of the ini files, make sure that flat happens to NOT be one of them

I don't even think it fixes the animation...

go into your stepmania.ini

at the bottom of it, there will be a line that says "VideoRenderers=d3d,opengl"

change it to "VideoRenderers=opengl,d3d"

this usually fixes the flat problem. depending on your video card, however, you may now have an arrow bracket problem.

like neomax said 3.95 sucks a lot, and you'll have to deal with it if you want a near arcade perfect itg2 experience.

Yeah it does, that's what I did for mine because I have no real video card.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. The Groove 2.1 skin is working fine, but I just downloaded a new version of the cel noteskin (that didn't have a textures subfolder) and things seem to be working fine now. My friend won't need a perfect arcade experience, so it should be fine for his purposes.

Tomorrow maybe I'll reload the old noteskin and try the VideoRenderers trick.

Also... a random question that I'll ask here just so I don't have to start a new thread. When I first downloaded my Groove 2.1 skin, I also downloaded a Stepmania.ini file which has proper ITG-like grading. However, with this file, I now fail after getting 30 consecutive misses, like ITG arcade... I don't want this. I've turned fail off and all other related options (that I can see) in the options menu, but this just means I won't fail when I run out of life; I still fail if I get 30 misses in a row. Can someone tell me which setting in the .ini is causing this? I wasn't able to find it myself. Thanks!

Try the "Disqualification" setting in the ini and set it to 0. That's the only think I can think of right now.
