bg movies are crashing SM...

ok so i downloaded the gigantic bg movie zip from ddr.bircd.org and put the scripts in the proper song folders and all that jazz and most of them work fine. however, some of them (321 stars, TLoM, bag, MaxX Unlimited, AM-3P 303 Bass Mix to name a few), upon trying to play, cause SM to crash. furthermore, even songs that don't have and never had videos (like some of my keybboard sims) are now starting to crash SM. how do i fix this?

A few questions for you. First, What version of StepMania are you using?

Second, what actually happens when it crashes? Does SM just close and you go back to the Desktop, or does SM freeze, or does your whole computer lock up, or something else? Do you get any error messages?

Third, when exactly does it crash? When you select the song, right after the song starts, part way through the song, or something else?

SM freezes and it brings up the window where you can view crash report, view log, restart, close etc.

before the song starts, after i select the song & modifiers.

Just turn bg movies off. You know it's pointless and all it does is distracting you.

If you DO want BG movies, then don't use 3.95 CVS. Sorry, it's just not stable enough.

Go back to SM 3.9.

Yes, I thoroughly agree. I suspected that might be the case, which is why I asked what the SM version was! Heh heh.

I've heard that Loop and Rewind cannot both happen in SM versions after SM 3.9. Is this true? Because that might have been the reason the vids crashed SM.

Anyway, you can use two different installations for SM if you've got the disk space. Like SM3.9 for movies and 3.95 for ITG sims.

i want the ITG2 theme for everything. i don't care about movies all that much, so i just turned em off and it works fine now.

While I can't comfirm if that happens after SM 3.9 since, as everyone said, I used 3.9 for stability reasons. But Rewind and Loop contridict one another so it is possible.
