Can't Believe I'm asking... DDR Vs. SM

Well, of course everyone has played both, but what do you tink is better? I think about most of you will put DDR but maybe even SM.

I started this because my friend is pissing me off trying to say SM is way better than DDR. I'm like "Then where did SM get its features from?" and others questions like that. Is thhere like no possible way I can own him in that argument? >_>

Hmm...

DDR can't be anything else than what it is unless otherwise modified, which takes some work.

SM can be DDR, ITG, and other things with minimal work.

SM can eat DDR. DDR usually can't eat SM.

SM might be good in universal usage but I think DDR will always be better in quality....hell, most stuff from SM is just based off of DDR, PIU, and ITG.

I love SM for it's sheer number of features and modding ability, however I think I'll take DDR over it. DDR has been doing amazingly lately, from graphics to steps, and without it SM wouldn't exist (no really, SM was originally based off of DDR PC).

DDR sucks compared to SM cause SM is very yeah. I can make my own songfiles for songs I love and that's something DDR can't do cause that's not the yeah thing to do in the Kanomi world.

Is there a serious argument over which is better? Gee, do I want the real thing or the knock-off?

Try DDR vs ITG and there you'll have a better argument (And don't give me that ITG is SM bullshit because that was never mentioned in this thread)

I prefer DDR. SM lags for me when I play sims with videos (and by videos I mean whole videos, not clips). And DDR never crashes. I just like DDR because it's more..."stable", for lack of a better word.

I don't find there to be enough that DDR offers that SM doesn't offer to justify it's difference in price.

well look at it this way DDR has gotten popular than stepmania bc of the recent upgrade to its graphics as well as new features than what it used to be. even right now stepmania cant keep up with the the videos ( especially if its getting the orginal videos from the 1st-8th) and also bc some of the videos arent of high qualty and the current arrows fro the stepmania do not mimic the same kind in supernova and to tell u the truth the 4.0 build that got released was jus almost like vomit.

Well for anyone who wants to make their own stepcharts, stepmania is your only option. Also, the reason I play Stepmania 95% of the time despite the fact that I own 7 console versions of DDR is that I can adjust the timing windows. I like my perfects to be arcade perfects.

The only downside of stepmania that I can see is that the vast majority of stepmania users probably use windows, which introduces lag/freezing issues. When I used windows, stepmania wasn't even worth the trouble. On Linux, it runs like a dream, but not everyone considers switching operating systems to be a viable option.

Also, if you enjoy the mission modes, I suppose DDR is the option for you.

btw, is it legal to download ddr simfiles if you already own them?
