Default The Death of KB?

Just figured I'd bring this up.

I see alot of people playing KB charts on feet nowadays, and passing them with extremely high scores. The "definition" of KB sims are that they're supposedly not passable on pad. However, the advent of all the major dance games (DDR, PIU, ITG) becoming alot harder gives quite a few KB sims a real run for their money. Hell, before ITG came along Chimera from PIU NX, when Autogenned in SM, would've probably been considered a KB chart.

So what do you think? Personally, I think KB sims will become harder and harder along with pad sims and dance games, until KB sims hit that plateau where they can't get any harder. Pad sims and dance games will eventually catch up and KB sims will just be "hard pad sims".

It's a new wave of seizure dancing really.

I'd like to see someone do that to White or something similar. I mean, at that point, you're just finding how to take the weaknesses of the machine to your advantage or you're using more than one person.

Such people who claim to pass difficult keyboard-intended steps only account for a small bunch of the entire padder population.

I think keyboard sims will stay the same the way they are for the time being. It doesn't matter if padders can pass them or not. There comes a point where the difficulty is just absolutely absurd and retarded, to a point where there's no point in playing them (except for the lawls).

I think you're a bit uninformed about the state of the KB community.
The keyboard files people play on ITG machines are old index stream files from packs such as the CKBMP. The keyboard players have had years to play StepMania on the keyboard, and thus, have improved their skill so much that even an AAA one of those files is considered merely average depending on the number of perfects.
The step techniques used by the community have advanced as well to suit the growing need of difficulty and jumpstream was invented.
Jumpstream is a stream with a large amount of jumps placed alongside the normal steps. It's very hard to read, and translate to finger movements on the keyboard, and almost impossible to do on pad.
While the KB padders are advancing in terms of skill, the skill they have now is not nearly enough to do something like:
YouTube - Flunk09 - Mei (Oni) - AA (27g11cb)
AAing that song in the link is considered average by the community.

While I agree with you that KB playing may die out in the future, it probably isn't going to be caused by pad players playing progressively harder KB songs. It will more likely be caused by lack of interest.

Besides, I don't think we're going to have to worry about people passing things like Disregard or Vertex Gamma any time soon.

I agree. However, there are few "Genuine" KB sims that are either:
- Can cause injury or worse (!!) if attempted on foot (ahem. The simfile of DM Ashura's "Z" on Stepmania StepMix 3, I think...was it Expert/Challenge or Edit that had the STEPS OF DOOM? It had rolls placed in insane areas)
- Simply impossible to foot unless you're an octupus. Or if you cheat by bringing a friend. (Obviously these ones are KB doubles)

That could be the KB simfile's only hope...this coming from a non-Keyboard player (plays Pad or Pad + Keyboard (ITG-ish) sims)

Things to know when I request original simfiles:
1.) MOST IMPORTANT RULE - they MUST be paddable. I will sometimes ask for an ITG-Style Challenge/Edit level, but I will NEVER request Keyboard-only simfiles. So please, if you take my requests, make sure the end result is paddable.
2.) If it's an Anime OP or ED song, it MUST have the BG video as well as the TV size version of the song.

Basically that's it. I hope this helps when I request simfiles.

It feels good when you see people on pad doing better than you on songs that you play on KB. :/

a kb chart is still a kb chart even if its paddable

you should have enough knowledge to make the distinction between pad charts and kb charts because both still apply to the same standards.

Well imo, the worst form of a KB sim is one that has a ridiculous combination of a long hold and a ridiculous stream going on at the same time. Painfully impossible on pad, painfully easy if you use the right keyboard configuration... at that point you wonder, what's the point.

I've found KB and hard single stuff to be boring and monotonous. Choreographing double steps and freestyle -- now that's fun. A lot of people can pass the song. But I think I can count on one hand the people who can look like they're actually dancing doing it.

Though Doubles KB would be great and I'd like to see some more activity there. That actually requires movement in your hands. That's the real challenge.
