I am still developing one to make SM Plus Final compatible for ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron (I have the source codes), but is anyone else trying Stepmania for Linux yet?

I use SM on Linux, I can try building 3.9+ for you later tonight but I won't waste too much time on it if I have problems doing so.

stepman actually runs quite well in linux if you have the hardware to back it up. I use it in a pretty updated ubuntu build.

True, but I also realized that it runs worse than Windows XP on older onboard video cards. I tried it once and the framerate was low at certain points. Possibly my onboard video card that was with hp pavilion xt963. Also, Shakesoda, where will the Linux build be for Plus Final?

Linux hates crappy video cards more than any other OS

Nowhere because I lack the build files for 3.9+ on Linux.

I found the source codes for SM Plus Final included with the Windows version. Maybe that should work? Also, I'm giving you a PM in the Stepmania forums web site. Check that out, okay?

the windows build files are included, but not linux ones.

I'm not talking about the source code itself, I'm talking about the files needed to build it.

I thought the build files can work in all OSs if build right. Also, what Linux OS are you using?

No. Linux needs certain makefiles, arch hooks, etc. Windows and OSX/darwin need them as well.

(I'm trying this using Ubuntu 8.04)

specifically, linux hates ATI. Did you try using the updater to just download the build straight up?

I'm not having problems running it, it's building it that is the problem.

Someone needs to find Vyhd and see if he will do it, he did the other ones.

With Linux having issues with ATI cards, how does it fare on recent nVidia cards?

I am an Ubuntu user.
I play StepMania 3.9 on my laptop, and it worked out very well.
When compared to Windows XP (on my laptop),
StepMania works better on Linux.

Linux does not work very well with ATI cards,
but it works very well with nVidia cards!

Everyone's right...... I have a laptop with onboard ATI 200M Xpress (128MB)
Can't play SM at all with Ubuntu yet plays very well on XP (I has dualboot)
Damn it and they say that Linux is THE OS that doesnt need an expensive hardware to run.

I have Ubuntu 8.04, and Linux Stepmania runs circles around it's windows counterpart on the same computer. I have an Nvidia. For those having problems, have you been over to the Ubuntu forums
[url="http://ubuntuforums.org/"]
to see if anyone knows how to get it running with your ATI card?
