Default Does it matter if you really use speed mods?

I've always wondered if using speed mods makes people think you cheated. I don't think it would matter if you use Mutiples, but for Constant rates.. I think it may matter (if the song has stops, or speed ups/downs in them.)

Or does it really not matter?

Not really, though i'n my opnion using cmods aren't really playing the simfile how its supposed too. but your not cheating because its there for the purpose of you playing it like that.

It doesn't usually matter. C-mods tend to make people accuse you of cheating, but honestly, if you hit it, YOU HIT IT. That simple.

In before flamewar.

It doesn't matter if you use C934, MINI, Hallway and a thousand other mods! This games is about hitting arrows as accurate you can, nothing else. To achieve it, you must have your own personal preferences. I, for example had a hard time seeing the arrow patterns at first, therefore I started using a constant speedmod (C600, although I've been increasing a lot since the songs I play get harder).
I think Cmods is great in the way that the brain gets used to seeing the arrows in the same speed all the time. Sure, it's alot easier playing 1500 BPM songs with C400, but hey, you still press the arrows at the same speed as anyone else.
The only bad thing about Cmods is that you miss neat stuff like BPMstops and slowdowns, but I can live without that.
As long as you don't decrease the judging difficulty from 4, you don't cheat in my opinion.

I use Cmods because I don't want to bother having lots of multiples to get each song between 600-700, if there was an easier way to have stops included then I'd use that. But for now C650 works just fine.

as far as i've seen, for "serious" competition c-speeds are frowned upon

multipliers are totally fine though

I use X mods all the time it's no big deal. However with C mods it up and down for me. I usually use C mods when I'm sightreading a song for the first time. Soulscream mentioned a good point saying that it's a great way to get the brain to seeing the arrows all at the same speed. Afterwards I go back to using an X mod on that same song to see if I can figure out the stops and bpm changes. Ranatalus also brought up a good point saying that C mods are highly discouraged in serious competition. In ITG you can be automaticaly disqualified for using a C mod on a song with bpm changes and stops. But if you're just playing for fun or trying to learn the notes then I don't see any harm in that.

Most of the time I use a C mod, If i feel a song is better played without it (IE some ITG songs, Chaos) then I use X. I don't really see a big deal in it, though.

Unfortunately I pretty much have to use C400 speed mod. If the arrows scroll slower than 400 bpm, my computer lags a lot and the scrolling becomes extremely choppy. If I go faster than C400, Stepmania crashes... oh well...

Nope.

If you turn on :

Speed 8
Sudden
Reverse

etc....

then it will make the gameplay seem harder.

Yeah, Cmods count as cheating in any reputable competition. But other than that, use them. I like them. I'm almost reliant on them, even.

cmods are fine... a lot of songs don't have crazy changes in bpm and sometimes the pauses and such are useless and just annoying. If the song is better experienced with stops and slowdowns, then I go to an X mod. Otherwise just use a cmod.
