Editiing Song Pack Files (redistributing)

Hello all,

This is an interesting topic but I will give it a go.

I have been playing KB simfiles for sometime, but many of the files are WAY too hard for me - they are like hyper/another beatmania charts. I have seen and enjoyed some keyboard files with Beginner/Basic/Standard/Heavy/Challenge/Edit steps, but most files are simply a expert/challenge that is 13+. Now I have thought of taking some of the Sweet Sims files are restepping them to have all the difficulties, using the original chart as a basis. Now would it be ethical/allowable, etc to redistribute them with credit to the original pack/author.

I think you need to have the original Simfile author's premission first before you reupload the file, but I think you can modify the sim for personal use.

I'm going to agree with the permission statement, besides I did the same thing making another simfile harder, for distribution.(sp?)

You'd have to have their permission and then have them talk to us and THEN go through the uploading process after that to insure you don't get infracted

Unless they're otherwise unreachable because of inactivity, I usually PM or ask first and generally give credit if it isn't mine (which I've had happen a grand total of 1 time). Going through a moderator, as far as I'm aware, really isn't necessary if the author says it's fine otherwise (unless they're more anal than I'm aware...I've been here several years).

In my case, I've had a few people PM me about songs I've done that they want to redo but I usually have no problem with it provided that they at least show me the finished product. I'm more interested in that than the fact that I'm 'letting go' of a song I've done purely for the fact that I like to see how other people view the sim and, if better, I learn something from it.

Course if it's stolen, graphics and all, and nothing was ever asked about...yea, that'd piss me off. :\
