Editing simfiles

I"ve been editing simfiles other people have done. This makes it easier for me, but I've had two problems.

1)I'll make the song way easier but stepmania will keep the same foot/difficulty rating. Is there a way to set it manually or even better some auto way? (I wouldn't know if my 5 difficulty is really a 5 or not)

2)I've had some songs with background video changes that I can't remove. I think its because the cursor won't line up with it exactly. What can i do here.

1) You can go into Stepmania's EDIT MODE, select the song with the arrow keys and press ENTER. When the file loads, you can change the foot rating by pressing ESC and EDIT STEP STATISTICS. You can change the foot rating here. Usually SM only goes up to 15 for a rating. Additionally, you can just edit the .SM and/or .DWI in question with Notepad in the chart/difficulty that is needing to be fixed. It'll be under the #NOTES: section. This will allow you to go PAST 15 to practically any number. Save the file afterwards, boot Stepmania and Reload Songs and Courses in OPTIONS.

2) The easiest way to fix this is removing the #BGCHANGES: line altogether in any given .SM and/or .DWI file with Notepad and saving the file. Boot SM and reload song and courses afterwards.
