Default How do you recognize a double step?

I tap my feet when making a chart to make sure there's no double step. But it gets frustrating in charts with uber long streams. Some people on the other hand recognize double steps instantly. How do they do that? Is there a list of patterns I should memorize?

After you've been making steps for a while (maybe a few months) you'll be able to immediately tell just by looking at a stream whether it has double-steps or not. You could *try* to memorize patterns, since there really aren't that many, but that's not worth the effort in my mind. Better to just learn from experience.

a lot of people that "recognize" doublesteps right away just do a doublestep for everything, which i guess works haha

I've made charts for about one year. I'd be better off memorizing the patterns. Got a list?

Not counting crossovers, look for 3 or more arrows that go in sequence. Example: left, down, right, up. (A very annoying turn).

before you master the technique of the double steps shaningan, the sacrifice of 1,000,000 babies must be done.

...or you could just keep stepping stuff until you recognize a double step pattern from the positions of the arrows around it, which is the most natural way. where there's a double step, you will also in most cases notice a little discrepance in the visual perception of the chart while scrolling through.
