Looking for info on image and avi resolutions

Standard sizes:
Banner - 256x80
BG - 640x480
Avi - 320x240

Now, what I'm wandering is, can this be increased to look better in HD without the program suffering? I know the banner and BG can, but only to 512x160 and 800x600, respectivally.

So I guess my questions are:
- Can I size up Avi to be bigger?
- Can the banner/background get any larger as well?

Thanks in advance, I know this is a rather basic level question, just getting back into simfile making for a project and it's been a while.

StepMania really can handle anything you throw at it. 640x480 AVI is possible, definitely. If you had a 1280x960 BG, it would probably look fine.

hunh. 3.0 or 4.0? I've tried bigger stuffs on 3.9 with less than stellar results... but that was a long time ago. Maybe it's different now >_>

But to play safe, 640 x 480 / 400 x 300 / 320 x 240 are recommended with AVIs. aspect ratio outside 4:3 are also known to cause some lag.
