Modifiying Stepmania To Your Liking (Add Songs, Add Speedmods)

I have a question that has nothing to do with speeds but I'm asking it anyway.

Whenever I try to put stepmania on the screen goes dark and then it goes straight to under score. I try to put it on but it won't work. What happened and what should I do?

Um, I have a kinda weird question. How do you add foot rating names? (ex. 9 for Catastrophic)

I was able to fix the one I posted here before. Now my main problem is how do I make a default song list? The one similar to DDR Extreme, where 83 of the 240 songs are given a certain order in the default song wheel.

So besides the wierdass picture of an ugly female, how do you add speedmods? I want to go from 0.5x to 5x in .5 increments :P

Read the instructions, except instead of adding cmods at the end add in xmods and change the numbers so it's still sequential. Seriously, there's no trick.

I'm not sure if this is the exact place to post, but I was wondering if somebody had an answer.

In Stepmania 3.9+, what is the best way to achieve being able to use more than 4 [DDR/ITG] or 5 [Pump] inputs for the gameplay? [9 for Pop'n Music style, 6 for 5-key beatmania [scratch + 5 buttons], 8 for IIDX style [scratch + 7 keys], etc?]? I mean, does it involve theme modification, source code modification, or both? [I'm betting on it being both, but my unsure nature is why I'm asking]

It involves downloading noteskins for the gametypes and installing them in the noteskins folder.

i have a question? i know this doesn't deal with this but i been having trouble making steps for my songs
I can't get the arrows to hit where i want it....like the red, blue, and yellow notes
can someone help me improve my steps?

If you want to change what colours your steps are falling onto, hit right and left until you're on the note interval you want to place, i.e. when it's yellow it'll snap to 16ths.
If you're recording steps with ctrl+r, and you're not accurate enough, don't use ctrl+r, place them by hand.
If your BPM is wrong, use Mixmeister BPM Analyzer and round to the nearest whole BPM.
If your offset is wrong, use assist tick and a low music rate and adjust it until the beat of the chart is the same as the beat of the song.
If you can't get it to sync right no matter how much you fiddle with it, is your song a non-constant BPM? If so, don't try to step it unless you feel very confident and can make multiple bpm changes to keep it on track when it drifts.

I got a few questions..

1. how do I add a cover mod to a theme? I can't explain it good, but the best would be "How part of the screen will turn black"

2. How do I properly play RandomMovies and such on SM 3.9/3.9+ Redux? The movie files are in .avi format and I downloaded DirectX already, but in 3.9 I get a crash dump (Probally will post that later by request) and in + redux it shows an error about how it cannot open Stepmania.vdi.

Are these options for endless mode? I want to add a short break every 20 songs or so (kinda like what you can do on the console versions). Any idea how to do this? Altering the code pasted above doesn't seem to work

stepmania 5.0 came out recently, but I don't know how to add new speed mods to it, any ideas?, already checked as shown in the first post, the file is fairly different from stepmania 3.9.
