Odd Stepmania problems

Something I noticed last time I played Stepmania on pad. Most simfiles with animations/videos cause severe input lag (to the point of unplayability) when I play them on keyboard. However, using my PSJoy USB converter and my pad, there's no lag at all. This is very odd because my keyboard is also USB. Anyone know what the problem might be?

Second problem: Playing some of the leaked In The Groove 3 songs now causes severe framerate reduction on my system, down to about the 30s (from 50+). This is also odd because the framerate count in the top right doesn't actually drop, but it certainly LOOKS like the framerate is slowing down. And this problem is recent; it didn't start happening till yesterday.

Animation drag does not = frame rate loss.
StepMania tends to standardly run at 75fps.
If you have a Parallel Port (printer port) on your PC, you want this.

I should be reposting the config FAQ on my site in the near future, though it isn't that difficult to config.
