I think pink means that stepmania can't find the appropriate bg or banner to show on-screen.
the pink banner happened to me on 3.9 (it's the default bg, then it faded to pink) while the pink bg happened to me on 4 (I was using the extreme 2 pack by amy from zenius and they don't have bgs) after the bg video of the song stops playing (but not before).
that's the only time it showed itself to me, and just modifying the .sm file (or naming the banner/bg the same name as the dwi file) did the trick for me. | |

I think you do not need to reload if fast load is off (it doesn't speed up the loading process one bit, but that's just me).
And besides, I solved it (without reload since I don't know how to do that when it happened), and it didn't happen to me again ever since. | |

1.) MOST IMPORTANT RULE - they MUST be paddable. I will sometimes ask for an ITG-Style Challenge/Edit level, but I will NEVER request Keyboard-only simfiles. So please, if you take my requests, make sure the end result is paddable.
2.) If it's an Anime OP or ED song, it MUST have the BG video as well as the TV size version of the song.
Basically that's it. I hope this helps when I request simfiles.

For some reason, the BG was somewhat corrupted. Here is the fixed version.
Just replace the old one with this, and then Reload Songs/Courses  | |
