oh no! i cant press up and down or left and right simaltaniously??!?

i tried using a mini handheld dancepad designed with stepmania and found i cant press the up and down arrows, or the left or right arrows at the same time.i am running the mini pad through a USB converter thingy. is it the converter that wont let me press opposite doubles? or the dance pad?

What's it called?

My one calld SuperBox 4 thinks I'm trying to use a fishing controller if I push left and right together. Makes it hell in long streams. I have to jump back to the middle like they are mines :P

Have you tryed holding Up, Start and Select for 3 seconds, then trying?

Check how the controller comes up in the Game Controller Control Panel section. Most likely, it's a Joystick Axis issue that the adapter is causing. Best bet, if it's coming up as a joystick in the Game Controller window, would be to try another adapter (Or one you know works with another pad/controller) and see if that resolves the issue.

my mini dancepad's problem sounds like that too. on stepmania's site it said that it works well for SM (same product and brand on the site as i could remember) but for me, it didn't work well! i can't press them at the same time.

It's called joystick axes problem, where the controller is recognized as having an x and y axis as opposed to having four directional buttons. Find a new controller. Or get a real ddr mat
