Ok, so as you guys know I am making a SM pack called Summer Trance '08. I have been taking a few submissions and noticed that some of them are completely restepped songs that have been used by others. Also includes completely new artwork and everything. The only thing used it the song itself. Most used the songs because they have been cut to the 2 - 2 1/2 minute song limit. They are all really well done step charts as well.

Now what I am wondering is....

Should I allow these songs to be in the simpack?

Any advice would be great. I really want to release this pack but I don't want it to be slammed because of the song cuts. Thanks so much.

It'd be good of the person to at least mention the fact that they used a previously cut version by someone other than themselves. Usually, however, that's not the case and people will just step it regardless of them not making the cut or not so it's more or less something that no one really cares about in terms of originality.

That said, everything else should be redone from scratch...offsets and BPMs and everything included. The reason I say this is because if someone's redoing a certain stepchart then there must be a reason for it other than 'omg pop song then im populurrr lulz' that I would hope for. Usually, I find myself redoing the offset anyways if I'm in the position because the person is either somewhat or WAY off when it comes to sync but at least had a good song to propose initially.

Now if you steal everything else about it and barely change the steps around, if at all, and then take complete credit for it then we have a problem.

That's more or less how I think about it. Seems like most others feel the same.

I think it's OK to use the BPM unless it's way off, and the offset for tjhe same reason. So if you're using one of Wipeout's sims, change the offset because the steps always start on beat 1.
