Default Is this possible?

Does anyone know of an application that not only finds the bpm, but also the offset? I use bpmfinder, which seems to work well, as long as the timing isn't too complex, but with the offset, I'm still syncing it 'by ear'. The offset doesn't seem to be nearly as critical as the bpm, but I'd still like to get as accurate as possible with it.

Also,

Does anyone know of a website with some kind of applet that will identify a song for you? I know the music industry has programs that identify music to prevent piracy. I have a song that's been sitting around on my harddrive for ages now, and I've got a pretty good stepchart for it, but no idea what the song title is and only a guess who the artist is. I need to figure these things out before I submit it.

Generally, to find the offset, you can use something as basic as a wave editor like Goldwave or Audacity to find where it exists. In an MP3's it's generally where the flatline silence ends and the music waveform begins.

Sometimes, that's not the case, however...but in general that's what usually works on top of your own intuition and syncing by F4 clapping.

As for music identification...if it doesn't have its own tag on the actual thing, it's doubtful outside of, laughably, Yahoo! Answers or something in relation to whatever song you have towards a forum...at least that I know of.

check this stuff out DDreamStudio it runs a wave form in the background under the steps so you can see exactly where a song starts and add the first beat.

Oh by the way that music ID is not embedded on MP3s, as far as I know it's only on CDs and contains some album information and the ID tag of the one who registered this CD (producer/studio/label/whoever). If you're able to find the tag you might be able to dig up some information about it.

I tried that link and it seems like it's a different dreamstudio then the one you were thinking of.
EDIT: I found the link elsewhere in this forum.

Sorry about that, I typo'd the link (DDReamstudio, missed the double D) fixed it now. Anyway the offset is real easy to find with this, it took me 2 minutes to get it right.

Looks like a fantastic program. If only there was a Linux version

Maybe I'll try to run it in WINE and see how it works. I'll report how it goes.

Smile Just a thought about finding that song:

Just a thought about finding that song:

If there are any lyrics, type a phrase or two into a google search and see if you can find it on some lyric site.
